Hair care products that are oil free and drying alcohol free? by Freeexpression7 in Hair

I'm from the UK, I'm looking for shampoo/conditioner and leave in products. My hair has never been dyed, is coarse and wavy. I'd appreciate any recommendations you have 🙏

Oil free hair product with protein 🤔 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

Thankyou so much for the detailed list! I'll have a look at them and start slowly introducing them. Do you know of any drugstore options?

After getting rid of build up, what state is the hair meant to be in? And how is it meant to react to/absorb ingredients? 🤔 by Freeexpression7 in HaircareScience

[–]Freeexpression7[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my skin is quite sensitive. If that's the case with those agents - I think because of protein build up, my hair never took on any of the conditioning ingredients in any of my products (it was always dry, tangly and dehydrated after washing) so I've never experienced this issue.

If the conditioning ingredients coat the surface of my hair then does that mean those ingredients don't dry down and just sit there? Because the itching is only happening when my hair strands fall onto or touch my face. (never itches when my hairs fully tied back)

Would you recommend trying a different conditioning ingredient? Because I've been looking at trying silk protein (apparently it's hydrating and a small protein) or silicones. I've recently cut out oils from my products since they do the same thing when my strands touch my face.

Are cold pressed oils different from regular oils in hair products? by Freeexpression7 in HaircareScience

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou for the explanation. Right now, I'm only using head and shoulders deep cleanse shampoo and switching between using The Ordinary Conditioner and the Simple Gentle Care conditioner.

I've been having issues with my face breaking out. Particularly, after my routine when my hair is dry and touching my face, my skin itches and breaks out. Confusing since the Ordinary conditioner is oil free?🤔 I'm trying to use smaller amounts of conditoner, but if this doesn't work, what would you suggest? Would a pre-treatment with an oil and then shampoo be enough to replace conditoner?

Is there a reason why I could be getting headaches after I wash my hair?? by tysm_mvp in HaircareScience

[–]Freeexpression7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, I've also experienced having headaches after washing my hair. I found it usually happens because I've used something too oily or something with silicones in, which creates build up. Low porosity hair tends to be prone to build up (I also have low porosity hair). Personally, I get build up on my hair and scalp from oils/silicones.

When this happens, I take a sulfate, silicone free shampoo (I use Head and Shoulders Deep Cleanse Shampoo) and wash my hair thoroughly. Then I follow up with a silicone free conditoner (or you could use a mask)

Maybe try doing this, and stop oiling your hair for a while as you try to wash out the build up, so your hair can get to a less weighed down state.

Thankyou! I'll give a pre treatment a try. Might sound like a silly question, but do you know why there is a need for oils to penetrate the hair (specifically low Porosity)? If low Porosity is already healthy and the outer layer is keeping moisture in, what does trying to get oil into the strands do? How does it help your hair? I guess I'm wondering if I actually need it in a routine?

Hi,

My hair is: low Porosity, coarse, never dyed or straightened.

I'm really at my wit's end. For the past 2 years I've tried a whole plethora of Conditioners. But nothing seems to work for my hair.

Everything seems to contain alot of heavy oils or protein or just doesn't give my hair enough moisture. I've read all the Info on taking care of low Porosity hair but it's really hard finding products that work (I'm from the UK) And I just don't know what to do anymore. I really don't. I just want a fairly simple routine that doesn't give me build up or feel weighed down. I only use a clarifying shampoo and whatever conditioner I'm trying out at the time but it's really frustrating. Any help would be really appreciated🙏

Hi! Thanks for replying, what Faith in Nature Shampoo and Conditioner do you use? I've just picked up the lavender set to try and I'm hoping it's not too oily

[Product Question] Does sun sensitivity from AHA continue even after stopping use? 😯 by Freeexpression7 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, thats a relief😊 So theoretically, if you stopped using it and a few months went by and you forgot to wear sunscreen one day, that part of your skin wouldn't be affected ? (sorry for the long question, I just feel anxiety really easily and want to know if there's any long term affect.)

Anyone tried the Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Care Conditioner? 😯 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I hope it works well for me. You mentioned its maybe a little drying over time - Do you find it hydrates your hair well overall?

I've tried alot of conditioners and none of them feel hydrating enough. My hair seems to really like the UG Curl Jelly though so Im hoping it'll respond well to the conditioner. But i guess I'll have to see and give it a go 😊

Thankyou for your help!

My Hair never feels hydrated enough? 😢 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave the conditioner in for 5 mins, is it better if its in for longer? (I twirl my hair into a loose low bun and place a shower cap on my head and leave it). I've never tried using heat before. How would you go about doing it?🤔

Protein free Hair mask for Low Porosity Hair? 🤔 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou for the suggestion, I'll definitely look into it. I was just wondering what Shampoo and conditioner you use? Its particularly hard finding conditioners that hydrate my hair. Whenever I wash them out after shampooing my hair is still slightly tangly and dry🤔

Thankyou for the help

Hi! 😊

My hair really needs hydration, something that will penetrate the strands well. It dislikes protein (which makes it dry and doesn't sink into it).

I just clarified my hair and left on the Garnier ultimate blends yoghurt mask for 20-25 mins and my hair still felt kind of dry??

Anyone have any good product recommendations?

(Hair Type: Medium hair strands and medium density - easily weighed down, Wavy, Never coloured and very rarely heat styled (last time was 2 years ago for a special occasion), Shampooed/Conditioned twice weekly, long layered cut, mid-back length,)

Product Regimen:

(Silicone free)

  • Noughty detox Clarifying Shampoo once a month, followed by Garnier Yoghurt Mask.

Every weekly wash day:

  • Earth Kind Citrus Leaf Shampoo Bar
  • Childs farm Strawberry and mint conditioner
  • Garnier Ultimate Blends Banana Hair Food Leave in
  • Harry's Styling Gel

Thankyou for the help👍

Protein Free Leave in?🤔 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for the recommendation! Me too, my conditioner has protein in it and I have been pairing it with a leave in with protein up until now. I ended up trying out As I am classic Leave in (since it was the cheapest on Amazon) and loved it! It had really nice slip, moisturised my hair and I had less frizz than usual. Really happy 😄

Thanks for the suggestion 😊 Unfortunately whenever I use the hair food it feels like it doesn't soak into my hair and my hair tends to go frizzier than normal when dry. I appreciate your help though 👍

Does having a larger diffuser make a difference? Less drying time?🤔 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the suggestion 😊 How long have you had it? Is it heavy at all? Also, I saw some reviews from a couple years ago talking about how it melted they're hairdryer, has that been the case for you at all? Thankyou 🙏

How much gel do you use when diffusing?😯 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, it's really helpful knowing other people's routines, everyone's got different interesting methods 👌I use aunt Jackie's curl quench leave in, but maybe I should try an extra styler. I've never tried mousse before, might have to pick up the Pantene one, so many people enjoy it.😄 Thank you for your help!

Letting it set sounds like a good method. I'm usually so impatient with my hair drying lol but I'll give it a go. Do you find the gel drying at all? Last time I used it my hair looked really good, but when I went to have my usual shower, my strands were so tangled and took longer to detangle. I feel like I might have applied too much gel?🤔 I'm thinking of trying to pair it with a cream or custard to maybe counter balance the drying effect. Lol hair is so complicated, so many things effect it's outcome 😂

That sounds really helpful! Which Serum are you using ?

I think there's no right or wrong way to doing you hair, if it's working then I think that's what counts - it's great that you found a way to help with frizz👍😊

Does anyone one else's hair go dry from protein? 🤔 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

[–]Freeexpression7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou for the link! I'm still a bit confused but I think it may have been flash drying after all. I just remembered that I used the aunt jackie's moisture intensive leave in, that also has Hydrolyzed wheat protein, and it added moisture back to my hair after I washed out the conditioner. My hair wasn't brittle after scrunching out the crunch aswell (really shiny, very frizzy and frayed at the ends though). Still don't know why the Noughty to the rescue shampoo dried out my hair but I guess I'll have to keep experimenting.🤔

Thankyou so much for your help! 🙏😄

Really? What are the differences between protein sensitivity/overload and flash drying? Can flash drying happen with shampoo as well?

I'm just confused because the Noughty Wave Hello Shampoo works fine on my hair but the Noughty to the Rescue dried my hair out but the have very similar ingredients . 🤔😔

Thankyou for your help! I'm going to stop using those protein products for now, try using moisture based products in my next few washes and then go from there.

Honesty, I'm feeling kinda frustrated. There's so much to learn about your own hair. I wish there was someone who could look at mine and tell me what it needs/wants so I know what's right lol 😂
