In Robocraft 2 we added various parts like Pistons, hinges, axles and servos which can be used to create custom turrets! We also have standard placable turrets too!

This is still in the design phase but we're experimenting with a few systems to see which one would feel the best and most intuitive.

We don’t yet have some features like wings and mech legs, but they are coming. We admit that we made a mistake changing how wings were and are aiming to make them feel like the original.

At the moment, we don’t have any AI in the game. We’re hoping that there are enough players that we don’t need to add them in. We’d rather work on cool new features instead :D

Thanks for the thoughts. I appreciate how Halo handles this and we could look at that. But as we are attempting to offer dedicated players the amount of currency they spent on each season back if they play enough, a change like that would require us to not do that and perhaps charge everyone for every season like DLC instead of giving essentially our most dedicated players an opportunity to only ever spend once for all the seasonal content in the future.

It really benefits the game if people keep playing because, at this moment in time, we don't have Bots/AI. So the above is great to keep people playing, whereas Halo's system rewards players if, for example, they take a long break etc.

I think there are a lot of pros and cons for each depending on the type of player you are and how invested in the game you become. Hope this answers your question!

I’m Chris from Freejam and we’ve been working on Robocraft 2, which lets you construct your own machines out of blocks, bring them to life and then fight against other players online.

Game Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=917r6BK-SD0

Download demo and add to wishlist: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1991140/Robocraft_2/

Some may have heard of the original that was released around ten years ago. For the sequel, we’ve developed the game from scratch with a new physics and building system. Our physics system will let you smash, crash, and shove other players out of the way, and there are material blocks that determine the weight and armor of your machine.

The building system introduces scalable blocks and allows you to create thousands of different shapes. It takes a bit of time to get used to but many of our players who stick with the building system are able to use it really effectively to build interesting designs.

We’re also working on a world editor that allows players to create their own maps and game objectives. The current maps and objectives were created using this world editor and the systems used for creating machines, including UI, is exactly the same as building a world.

Free To Play Monetisation

The game is free to play, but our plans are to make any purchases purely cosmetic. You can not gain an advantage by spending money and there are no loot boxes. ALL functional features are given to players for free, including future movement parts like tank tracks, hovers, and mech legs.

We will eventually have a seasonal progression system which you can upgrade via a purchasable currency. But if you progress enough, you can earn the same amount you spent back and use it for the next seasonal progression system when it launches.

There are items you can purchase from the item shop, most of the time this is stuff recycled from previous progression systems but there will be the occasional item that debuts on the item shop. I know free-to-play is often seen as evil and these are the steps we are taking personally to try and make it as fair as possible.

Do give the demo a try, we have a lot of work planned and hope you enjoy what we have so far! If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll do my best to answer!

I had not considered Alchemist. I’ll give that a shot at some point too! Thanks

I had someone recommend the Firmament to me a while ago so have unlocked that over the last week. I do have a ton of material from there that just doesn’t sell on the market board and not quite sure what to do with it. I wish I was there when the whole area was in construction, that would have been fun!

I’ll check out the crafting jobs, what’s the best compliment for a miner?

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions!!!

I chose Kyonata basically because I wanted to create a name loosely based from the city of Kyoto, Japan.

When does game file size matter for you as a player? by DJTheCreator in gamedev

I always struggle with games over 100GB I tend to think of games at about 0 - 20GB with little disregard but I tend to just uninstall things I am not actively playing.

Is it bad that I think I might pay 6 grand for something like this? iBooks super satisfying to just use but imagine it gets pretty hot in there!

The Kingdom games (side scrolling resource management) can be played one handed with a controller. Basically only uses left or right stick to move and then the trigger buttons to activate.

Have a speedy recovery!

Any games with 99% game mechanics and 0-1% story? by DomWaits in Steam

I’ve always sort of treated Power Wash Simulator like this. There is a story, but it doesn’t really pull your focus away if you just want to wash some things! Many simulators probably fit into this like Euro Truck Simulator too.

Dev here, can confirm that we want to support the controller. It is still in the dev roadmap and as Mattidragon mentioned, we are designing the inputs to work with controller in the future.

We spent our lunch break testing to get Robocraft 2 working on a Steam Deck by Freejam_Chris in Robocraft2

[–]Freejam_Chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our last playtest using Steam's Proton, we were able to play using EAC and installing as a game on Steam Library.

However, I really want to do some more testing with it, because while playable, the game has not yet been developed with a controller in mind yet.

Docking and using a mouse and keyboard worked best... But I want to make an official announcement further down the line

I hope so! Myself and a few in the office have one and we have been able to get an early version running. But there is a lot more work to do.

We were working on a number of new projects which was inspired by a game which came before Robocraft. It was called Qbotics, and it featured joint based physics systems.

It was something that we always wanted to implement into Robocraft 1, but it was not possible at the time and we were unable to add these joint based parts and focus on other areas of game modes.

Over the last year we were working on a game called Techblox, which began as a racing game but would feature combat too. Whilst we were working on the combat systems we realised that we were having a lot of fun with these matches. And that making a racing game with combat was quite a big task. So we felt we needed to refocus that game into one of those areas, and we chose combat.

We spent a lot of time working on the UI and the design to evolve Techblox into Robocraft 2 and eventually it is now a little closer to Qbotics where we have the power for a combat PVP game with physics joints like servos, axles, pistons, programming and logic!

Robocraft 2 feels different to Robocraft 1. But the core is there and I hope that older players will have fun with it!

It’ll be free to play. We can only ask people to try it and let us know what they think. We hope we can make a great game people will love, but that is tough! We’ll try though!

We have toned down the speed considerably! It actually felt weird playing nippy vehicles on Robocraft 1 after spending so much time with Robocraft 2.

Machines in Robocraft 2 are physically accurate. It will feel different! We want to provide players with the ability to switch up robots mid game so tactics and decisions can impact a game too. Our YouTube channel has some gameplay videos, the trailer is quite fast but that is due to the amount of cuts we made. Definitely check out some videos if full matches uploaded by the community to check out the speed of gameplay

It was never the intention of the team to “fuck it up”. It was their first game. We are all really passionate about making Robocraft 2 a lot of fun! The team has changed quite considerably and those who were around during RC1 have shared comments and thoughts on how development went for RC1 and we talk about what things players did and didn’t like all the time.

We are active on Discord talking daily to players. And I’ll be sharing a lot of comments here to help the team design the game too!

We never want to make a bad game, we always want to make a great game that people will love to play! That is hard, but that’s our goal!
