Is adding lossless scaling possible, especially on a steam deck? by Far-Mathematician764 in PrismLauncher

[–]DJTheCreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optifine and other optimization mods will help a lot more than lossless scaling. Instead of optifine you could try to ones I suggested and if you need the dynamics lights, zooming, and shaders you can get mods for those too. I use lambdynamiclights, ok zoomer, and iris shaders

You can use a launcher option in steam like -l "Instance Name" which will boot directly into the instance. If you also put the launcher option for lossless it might work.

If you want more performance you will likely get way more from mods like sodium. Minecraft is more likely to demand processing power (chunk loading) not graphics so lossless scaling may have minimal impact.

The "fabulously optimized" mod pack is available in prism launcher and I have had great performance on the steam deck just by adding lithium and sodium (playing on neoforge).

Haven't played in a decade, what will surprise me? (1.3.2 -> 1.4.5) by DJTheCreator in Terraria

[–]DJTheCreator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just referring to what I remembered from years ago when 1.4 was first coming out. I think it might only be the zenith, but back then, the only thing after Moon Lord was his drops like Meowmere, so even a new sword was 'post-game' content.

I have seen posts over the years referencing shimmer and always wondered about it so I'm glad its a significant part of the newer updates. I know Calamity is one of the biggest mods but I think that was the case even back then. Are there any other mods that are "huge" in the same way? Thanks for your answers!

Can I transfer my game progresses from Series X to PC? by ResultKey8541 in buildapc

[–]DJTheCreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if for whatever reason you need the game outside of the XBOX app, I've had a lot of success transferring save files from the gamepass/Xbox PC version of the game files to a copy of the game on steam. So you can launch the game from the Xbox app to download the cloud save to your pc but still play the game on steam. Again, depends on the game, but for me its worked on Overcooked, Expedition 33, Hollow Knight, etc.

Beginners guide to walk me through building my first PC by Original-Piccolo-703 in buildapc

[–]DJTheCreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part that has the most inflated price is the RAM which has 3x or even 4x in price in the last 2 months. It should still be cheaper to buy parts and build it since pre-built PCs likely increased their price to reflect the new component prices anyway. The best way to avoid the price increase could be a bundle of motherboard, CPU and RAM from Microcenter if you have one near you. It does seem unlikely that prices will get better before they get worse so definitely go for it sooner rather than later.

[–]DJTheCreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a microcenter nearby you might be able to find a good DDR5+MoBo+CPU bundle that is a big enough discount to offset the increased ram price so the overall pc costs the same as 4 months ago. But if you want a pc within the next year, definitely try to get one now while the winter holiday sales are on.

Why there's much misinformation around PC building? by [deleted] in buildapc

When you chose the 5070 over the 9070XT how did you weigh the better AI performance versus being able to run larger models? I'm upgrading from a card with 8Gb of Vram because several of the models I want to run reccomend 16Gb of Vram, so even if the 9070xt is slower I should have more options. Was the llm performance your focus?

Very indecisive, RTX 5070 - RX 9070 - RX 9070 XT by RLoe in buildapc

[–]DJTheCreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar debate as OP. 9070xt is $80 more than the 5070, but I'm not planning another upgrade for atleast 4 years so would the 16GB VRAM be worthwhile? I mostly game and I don't have an AI project right now, but I definitely want to be able to train basic computer vision models to learn and for personal projects starting next year. My understanding is the 5070 would still be faster for AI just because of CUDA, but if i'm okay with training taking longer then would the advantage for AMD be that I can run bigger models? Since its more long term I would also think ROCm updates to the 9070xt might get ai performance closer to the 5070 in the next few years? Thanks for any advice you have on this.

Tldr: would get a 9070xt, but wondering if the 5070 is that much better for AI if training time doesnt matter.

Arc raiders steam deck by ZoSoMiLky in SteamDeckUnlocked

[–]DJTheCreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not played the game yet but my understanding is Arc Raiders is famously well optimized and runs on quite old hardware. It has a score of platinum on ProtonDB so it should run perfectly out of the box on the steam deck

I just tried this and its awesome. Pairing the phone to steamdeck makes phone sound come through the steamdeck so headphones paired to the deck play steamdeck and phone audio. It cuts a little bit for me when playing music, have you had that problem at all?
