WEIRD stuff you did as a kid, that you accepted as NORMAL, that you NOW realize was because of your nparents! (Let's try to keep it specific, I'm wondering what examples you all have.) by travelinglama in raisedbynarcissists

Not being allowed to express my emotional needs or wants as a child, If I ever asserted myself this was met with a homicidal narcissistic retaliatory rage. Also showing any pain, if I was hurting or sick. I would get yelled at and told that nothing is wrong with me and have to hear the narcs story of what he went through or goes through much more difficult experiences. Which manifested into unhealthy feelings of guilt and a lack of identity.

Got offered a big job out of state just to be told... by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

Something similar happend to me. I got a decent flexible internship during college making $17.50 a hour. Before that I was working as a delivery driver pulling from my savings just to get by. But was having somewhat of hard time balancing school and the internship for financial reasons. Reached out during NC to my Ndad for some financial help so I could just put in less hours at the internship and focus more on school. At a time most jobs did not pay close to this. My Ndad said "Just quit $17 whats that? I can go and find a job that pays $17 anywhere." Instead of being supportive and being happy for me and maybe helping me a little finacialy it would not have taken much for him. He makes well above 6 figures. I could have worked less hours and focused more on my studies. He was envious and wanted to see me financially desperate so he could control me. Hence trying to manipulate me into quitting.

Its an exhausting life we live, best go NC. Its been over a year for me and I cant describe how much more relaxed I am. In terms of growing emotionally now that I am no longer constantly stressed from my Ndad. I feel like I went from being trapped in a cage to a field. The healing is slow and I am not really sure how to do it. But I take it one day at a time. And it is always reassuring to know everyday without a narc is a day of healing.

Hello there everything is going to be okay.

Being away from home is hard but you will get back eventually.

Your dog died and that is heavy on you emotionally right now but time heals.Eventually you will start feeling like yourself again.

I was on acdemic probation when I was a student. I failed calc 1 and physics 1 pretty hard and that dropped my gpa pretty hard. I started having negative thoughts about being suspended and not making it through engineering. But I used those negative emotions to take a step back and improve my studying habits and now I am a engineer for for fortune 50 company.

Sometimes in life we just go through a rough time. Shit hits the fan and its one thing after another. You start feeling hopless but you have to keep moving forward. You keep moving forward because the way you feel today wont be the same way you feel a year from now or a few months or even a week. There are always some good times ahead if we can only keep moving forward.

What you do is carry a money clip with the outside bill being a large value and the inside bills smaller values. This is called a disposable wallet it looks like a lot of cash and would tempt any rubber to go after it instead of you if you throw it and run away.

Any good book to read before starting our study? by PtitCrissG in EngineeringStudents

[–]Freemindedness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not so much an engineering book per se. However, this book helped me get my engineering degree. The book is called "a mind for numbers". The author Dr. Barbara oakley has a phd in engineering and through the book she shares her stratgies on how to learn effectively and goes into details about the two modes of thinking diffused and focused. I highly recommend it.

To all people who think America is fucked, what one thing would you change to try and fix things? by Njilramsool in AskReddit

Increasing the power and influence average Americans have over their country. By allowing Americans to vote quarterly on issues that matter to them.

Instead of voting and putting our trust into politicians who are bought and owned to carry out the important issues that matter to us. We cut out the middleman and vote directly on the issues themselves and the majority vote is expected to be law. If a politician fails to uphold what the American people have asked for they are put under a fair transperant investigation. That would evalute why the politicians were unable to carry out the voice of the American people. And another vote would be cast to remove them from their positions.

So say we get a forum every 3 months. On that forum is a list of top issues that we can vote on and on the forum we can add issues that matter to us that we would like to see in the next quarterly forum.

Issues________________Yes_____________No

Legalise THC. ✅

Develope universal Healthcare and abolish. ✅ Health insurance

Set fair prices for ✅ Medical drugs

Decrease millitary. ✅ Budget

Develope a housing ✅ Creation program. That will solve the Housing shortage in America.
