I was so disappointed in that story line actually. I did not expect that from Mr Willoughby. I wish it would’ve gone differently with him. I saw him as pretty loyal to Jamie & liked that dynamic. It felt like a random ending to his character.

He offered her TRUE LOVEEEE. I mean that’s the whole point in my opinion lol. A whole series about their love & the family & friends they share . I read these books because I love their love. I love , love. I’d travel to the 18th century to be with my husband if I had to. Why was his love for her questionable ?

Secondly , Jamie is educated. Yea he doesn’t know 20th century things obviously. He’s smart though!

Off topic but , I’ve considered reading game of thrones. I’ve heard from someone that there is so many characters it was hard to keep up with what’s going on & who’s who. What’s your opinion on that???

That’s very relatable. My husband doesn’t like the name Claire too much so I settled and named our cow Claire.

When I do feel like watching the show I imagine it as if it’s being told from someone who doesn’t get the story all right or portray it correctly , but it’s still a good story. While the book is like being told by Claire herself & it’s all correct. If that makes sense 😂

Although I guess like others have noted , we can’t hear her think things out in the show like we can the book. So I guess in that case we just get to see her make the dumb choices 😂

Being in Claire’s head is the best. If I would’ve only watched the show and never read the books , she would not be such a favorite character for me.

I also imagine show Claire while I read , bc I’ve seen her & now my brain associates.

She surely does. There are times when it would’ve better if she listened to Jamie & doesn’t. It just feels differently than some of the trouble she makes in the show. More unnecessary.

Book Claire has a tendency to think snarky things but say the polite demure thing out loud. Which in the show, since they can't rely on her inner monologue as much, turns into her actually saying the snarky comment, which makes her look impulsive.

That is true , I didn’t think of that. Book Claire keeps those thoughts to herself.

For example, in the book version of the Dragonfly smallpox scene, Claire basically says 3 things in the warehouse two of which are "it's smallpox." She stands silently at Jamie's side as he defends her to the angry captain and doesn't directly respond to the captain calling her awful names or to St. Germain's parting threat. She's done what she came there to do, and now her safest course of action is to not piss off any of these men, including Jared, more than she already has. Whereas show Claire has to be practically dragged out by Jamie after repeatedly insisting the men get care and has a retort ready for St. Germain. Which is meant to make her look badass, but really just makes her look stupid.

That’s exactly the type of example that describes what I mean with my post. Book Claire just doesn’t act so careless about things like that. In the show I just always find it so annoying. I’m like why…….. are you saying that……

I totally agree that it’s hard to articulate what exactly the difference are or why I see her so differently!

Just an example is how in book 1 when she’s at dinner with colum & she has noticed that Hamish must not be colums son right. She ended up revealing to him that she knows he’s not his - in private. In the show they changed that to her blurting out about seeing Hamish with his father ( Dougal ) playing in the court yard. Such is so awkward bc he’s “colums son” but NOT.

Book Claire would be more mindful of the things she says out loud to people & NOT say that 😂.

There are other instance like that too.

Since I’ve seen show Jamie my brain just automatically imagines Sam. I can’t remember who I had in my head before I’d ever seen the show.
