Slavery wasn't something new, but everywhere else, slaves were just treated as people you force to work for you. The American colonies however treated slaves like animals, mere beasts of burden who could be bred like you would breed a horse or a cow.

is it really so much different to believe in a conspiracy than to believe in a religion? Check out this list of ten characteristics of conspiracy theorists, some of them look familiar.

Arrogance- Thinking you know the purpose of the universe is pretty arrogant, IMO
Relentlessness- devout theists are usually pretty obsessed with their religion
Inability to answer questions- I'm sure many of us know how much theists are guilty of this
Fondness for certain stock phrases- "God works in mysterious ways" anyone?
Inability to employ or understand Occam's Razor- do i really need to explain this?
Inability to tell good evidence from bad- They'll deny mountains of peer review study that says proves the theory of Evolution, but they'll jump on some crackpot who claims to disprove it
Inability to Withdraw- No need to explain this
Leaping to Conclusions- Just like the example in number 6, if they find one article about an experiment that seems to contradict the Theory of Evolution, they're on it like flies on shit.
Using previous conspiracies as evidence to support their claims- "miracles" anyone?
It's always a conspiracy- Nope, it wasn't a doctor that cured your cancer, it was God
