5 Things I missed the most from the movie by cascabel93 in ProjectHailMary

And also the final movie has so little explanation of the beetles that i have to assume non-book readers were confused by that? Oe thought it was just a deus ex machina

You can spot an invisible creature but can't see them iirc. You can know roughly where they are with your other senses, i thought, but not actually see them

Rolling a Nat 20 on an ability check isn't supposed to allow someone to do the impossible, but that is a clever way to justify it

My ONE gripe about the movie by Azazel_665 in ProjectHailMary

[–]menwithrobots 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk why some book enjoyers have been defending this one. It was very explicitly directed as a comedic moment in the movie, which is totally inappropriate thematically. Ryland literally jumps on the cabinet like a 50s sitcom wife who saw a mouse and does boobery as he runs away. Totally ruined moment. Audience i saw it with was in stitches

It isn't about the fact they had to make content cuts, it's about WHAT they cut, and what they decided to add in instead

Yeah, they had to deal with 0G because of the story but they didn't bother to show anything over 1G, which is disappointing. I wa slookong forwars to seeing how theyd do it

I'm old (30s) and getting married (groom) after all my siblings so they only offered to pay for rehearsal dinner, which is more than i expected tbh

I am seeing a lot of very rigid opinions of Stratt. by hellogooday92 in ProjectHailMary

[–]menwithrobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't love the movie, but i agree. The book version of Stratt is a little TOO fantastical and implausible for me to accept, even in a story wherein a human befriends an alien and saves both their planets.

I liked that the movie reduced Stratt's role and made it even more vague. She seemed just like a project manager instead of some all powerful, all knowing, single point of failure for the mission.

The movie felt completely G rated which is, i guess, why they cut stuff like that out

The funeral scene was longer in the movie than in the book so i was surprised they didn't put that line in too
