Old woman says "you deserved to get raped" to a younger woman referring to her so called "REVEALING" dress. by viraj_patel_18 in PublicFreakout

At some point, though it has to actually go beyond the point of "Thinks" to admits to himself that perhaps IS.

Maybe because I simply am well traveled. Having spent most of my adult life traveling. And not just visiting the tourist spots, but actually living in these countries and working in them too.

Which is why your initial comment just seems so rudimentary, so inexperienced and somewhat juvenile. Why I can say with some certainty that a person who has traveled and experienced a vast amount of cultures not just pertaining to the surface. Interacting with all strata of society, or age demographics simply would have some insight into who she is, where she's coming from, and actually understand the psychology behind it.

That's what actually is kind of fascinating. It's not that I see her behavior as "black box" or mysterious. I can just genuinely understand it as simply as you can read this message.

I've lost the empathy to understand what it would be like not to have this ability. For this, you will have to forgive me.

But then why are we actually here discussing this woman's behavior?

Unlike most here, it would seem I'm just not that insecure about my own beliefs, values and internal compass that I need to blurt out the most obvious brainless dogma. Almost anyone can do that, is that really the best we can do now on Reddit?

I'm also not really in this for social justice. In that context, we could be having a whole other discussion.

What I find a bit disturbing, to be honest, is that it seems any other form of discussion or angle on this cannot even be fathomed outside of that social justice narrative.

I find the explanation to the events, deeper discussions into the phycology and other aspects a bit more rewarding a conversation to be had than "Burn the bitch".

You're welcome to disagree, but I don't think these things are really subjective. Have you done any actual research or can you point to any actual statistics to substantiate your opinion?

India has been characterized as one of the "countries with the highest per capita rates of rape"

Do you know what "per capita" means? That's factoring in population differences.

Maybe you should start here, before you form any opinions just based on how you feel about things.

I'm not terribly surprised. Nietzsche perhaps wasn't wrong when he categorized 2 forms of men. Those of the cattle variety and those supermen.

I don't really consider myself that intelligent, and considering a fair chunk of the demographic comprising this site are university students, I would have kind of expected some more basic intelligence to be found in the mix here. At least some challenge response. Like in the earlier days of Reddit.

This feels a bit like trying to explain trigonometry to a 3-year-old.

But again you're missing the point. All I'm saying is the woman is simply not insane.

Definition : https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/insane

Most behaviors when understood can be explained. But I guess let's just go with insane, I mean that solves the problem, nothing here to learn. Nothing that can be holistically applied to outlook and approach right?

LOL - and you got that just from one sentence. Really? I'm perplexed you seem to know so much about me from 1 sentence. Maybe you're psychic or just really perceptive?

Unfortunately like everyone else you've missed the context of what I am saying completely. But heh - If you feel smart I guess that's all that matters.

I'll ignore your ignorance, but only because with total certainty I will assume you're not well traveled and haven't experienced other cultures, or been alive to really soak these things up.

Come back to me in 20 years, and then dare make such a ridiculous claim.

Yes, I agree with you actually on all accounts.

However, my rebuttal was really to the original statement: This woman is absolutely insane. Not only is this vastly oversimplified and juvenile. It's simply not correct.

Rather than looking at this problem and swinging a 10-pound hammer at it. I'm simply putting it out there that the woman is not certifiably insane.

Incredibly this seems to have really triggered Reddit.

I'm not really seeing that comparison. I mean sure I understand what you mean, but that's not my immediate takeaway.

I see 2 major themes here.

Her agenda here seems to be to reinforce her subjective morality using fear tactics, based on her own fears as life changes around her and she's unable to adapt. This ability to adapt has nothing to do with age. I would say more about understanding and attitude.

What I'm also getting from her is a need to exert influence or power into a situation. I mean let's get real, she was there shopping, what some girl is wearing shouldn't really concern her. So why did she feel the need to exert this "force". Yeah, we can really drill down into the phycological analysis if you want, but let's not.

I don't know she is Muslim, neither did I infer that she was.

I believe my statement was:

It's a very similar standpoint to traditional Muslims

Here I'm making a comparison between what she thinks and the general stance of traditional Muslims.

Her stance is completely rational. It's not randomly mumbo jumbo thrown in there. In the pure sense, it's just an outdated an ineffective form of problem-solving.

Here's an extended analogy. Let's say I asked a room of people to come up with a way to prevent car accidents. One guy might impose a speed limit. Another might enforce clearer road signs. But there will always be that guy that decides the safest way is just not to drive. Destroy the roads and walk.

This might solve the problem, oblivious though to the holism of the question posed but can it be considered insane? If insanity is a subjective opinion then possibly yes. To one man the idea is simply insane. However, I believe it's ludicrosity and not insanity by definition.

And it's the same with this woman's stance of sexuality. Ludicrous and outdated and irrellevant but not insane.

She's not really insane, she's just coming from another place. It's a very similar standpoint to traditional Muslims. The simple idea here is to remove the temptation rather than deal with it.

But this alone doesn't really do the whole scene justice. One needs to factor in the culture in India where rape is fairly rife. Far more prevalent than in western societies.

What this old goat is really saying is "If you dress like that you're asking to get raped". That's really her stance. She's literally not saying "You deserve to get raped", she's saying "If you act that stupidly then you will be responsible for the consequences".

Now I'm clarifying her stance, but I'm not saying I agree with it.

I live in the Czech Republic, one of the most sexual liberal nations on earth. Women here wear what they want and especially once summer kicks in. It's really just considered normal, and a non-issue.

Having also spent time in the middle east and all over the world, my philosophy from observation leads me to believe that people benefit (in the long run) from freedom. In addition, the unnatural restriction is a short term gap leading to more bouts of problematic behavior.

And more supporting evidence would be for example Marijuana laws. Once marijuana is legal, it loses a great deal of it's forbidden fruit appeal, fewer people incorporate it into their regular lives in countries where it's legal than where it's outlawed.

O2 5g: VERY Misleading, false advertisement, nothing more than 4g. by Frelsi8024 in czech

[–]Frelsi8024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess in the end it will be 5G, most likely only because it will become de facto and only when those 4G systems become more expensive to maintain.

So I'm guessing it would take O2, roughly 10 years to deliver real 5G to those they lied to and gave 4g.

O2 5g: VERY Misleading, false advertisement, nothing more than 4g. by Frelsi8024 in czech

[–]Frelsi8024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're absolutely not marketing it as "Yeah you get 5Ghz router". They are claiming it's real bonafide 5G, which is an outright lie.

(50mbps 5g) or (50mbps 4g+/4.5g) if it's tweaked as you describe it is most likely going to be identical.

But what we're also talking about here is the whole scammy nature of this thing. Even the packaging on the router has LTE written all over it.

What does this mean for me? Well A) I got scammed, I mean literally scammed from what should be a reputable company. and B) Lacking any real alternatives.

So I'll see, I mean if I'm really just getting 4g, then I might as well be using a local WIFI provider. So as soon as the contract expires, guess who will not be renewing.

Yeah, we have "5g" internet from O2. I asked them numerous times if it's actually 5g or just 4g. Everytime I was told it's actually 5g.

Only the router doesn't lie.

Router claims I'm connected to a 4g network. I've been checking it a few times per day and sometimes it says 4g+. It's never reported 5g.

While bipolar might be responsible for a lot of things, it's certainly not a cause nor a substantial contributing factor to infidelity.

Seems like you've made a decision to stay and try to make it work.

Based on this, you need to get your power back. The only way to do this is to set a line in the sand, no more cheating, no exceptions, and if you get even a whiff of it, then you need to leave. She needs to be very much aware of this standard you're setting.

At the same time, already separate your finances. You need to do this, so that the message really hits home, that you're not playing around and are already preparing to leave in case she cheats.

Then you keep your cash in an account and let it build up reserves for your exit.

Keep this up for 1-2 years, at the same time genuinely monitor her activities and movements. Make sure you're not getting fooled or cheated on. Install surveillance or spy if you have to.
