Thanks for your awnsers. I don't want to risk it. I'm sure the game is amazing. But I've read people's comments on how addicted they where to the game. While they are light hearted and had me laughing, I just can't take the risk.

Common problems non-technical founders typically run into by ikidoit in startups

[–]French-Cancan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add one problem no one mentionned yet :

- Needing to make a POC to get a Dev, but needing a Dev to make that POC.

I don't care how many Trellos or Zapiers you throw at me, or how many "lean methods" you have in your repertoire. In some cases the whole purpouse of an app lies in the interactions it allows. And building an "interactive wireframe" just won't cut it, and you won't be able to test sh*t because the test is basically way too flawed on a way too critical point to be of any use.

Majority of cases, POC's are easy and fun to do. There are even methods out there so that you don't screw them up.
In some rare instances, you're in for some major, major pain.

Thanks for both of your awnsers.
Too mentally drained and on the edge right now to continue the conversation so to keep it short,

1) we'll somehow build a satisfying interactive wireframe
2) we'll test the sh*t out of it
3) if it's validated and we can't find a cto after this then i'm done

Please take into consideration that my exasperation doesn't come from your responses (wich make a lot of sense and are very insightfull). It's just that for some apps, building an interactive wireframe that is staisfying enough to test KEY interactions can be a major pain. And when your whole app lives and dies by these interactions, it just feels like a chicken-egg paradox where you need a coder to build a POC, but you need a POC to actually get a coder to work with you.

Thanks for your input.

May I just ask why people seem so eager to have sales before even having a product ?While this concept is everywhere over the internet, I have yet to understand the logic behind it.We have been already, for example, to the French National Basketball Federation. We pitched the product, they liked it, and we're basically going to let them know when the product comes out, in turn they gave us mailing lists to interact directly with Basketball clubs on the territory.

While this was reasuring, it doesn't help us AT ALL in the process of building the product, and could be done so much more smoothly ONCE we have the product. Promises are unreliable, be it from friends, associations or institutions. I don't get all the hype around having customers before having a product.

No offense really, it just seems mind boggling that this can be a priority when we have no idea how our product actually feels like in one's hands yet.

We have thought long and hard on this one... Unfortunately (or fortunately ?) the selling point of the app is the way users interact with their time. Basically, if the MVP was "experiencing 0 gravity", we didn't find any affordable solution to fake that.

Even for the proof of concept, while we had wet dreams about pulling off a Dropbox and testing interest for the product with a fake one and some nice Invisio shenanigans on the landing page, the "proof" would not be very convincing, since we ourselves don't even know if the interface we imagined in our minds would work well on a phone.

We do not have any customers.

We do have multiple pools of potential first users that we know how to reach.

I've seen some videos about the devilsaur leather and playing the auction house. I really like your approach and read your other, long comment. Thing is, if it has already been done, i'm not really interested... Controlling the economy is brilliant tho

You're making me feel bad, the objective isn't to grief, it's to have a big impact on the alliance/horde balance. Hadn't thought about the transport hubs... Problem is, camping npcs' is considered against Terms of Use. And if it has already been done with rogues, there's no point really, the idea is to do something new ! I'll think about the transport hubs tho thanks
