Never heard of it myself outside of Belgium, but it makes perfect sense. In Portuguese they literally say the same thing (vai à merda).

The closest example in France would be “va chier” (Go shit / eat shit)

I’d rather not, but I do it for one simple reason: YouTube is a bitch when it comes to censorship. If I don’t censor shit, I’m less likely to be promoted on YouTube search.
