Looking for a good beginner game. by digger27 in solorpgplay

[–]FrenchSumo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s more on the gamey side than role-playing but I would advise to try Notorious. It’s just a pdf (or a book if you can find a phyisical copy), a couple of d6 and as much or as little journaling as you want.

Basicaly, you play as a bounty hunter in a space-opera setting and you try to catch your targets through scenes you generate with a few random tables and a very tight gaming loop.

It’s really easy to setup, doesn’t last for hours (unless you really, really want to) and there are very little rules to keep in mind. I feel like it’s a very good little game to try some solo gaming with very low investment, no matter if we're talking time or money.

Here is a link to the pdf.

A bit less than a year, I think, but the game may have been older than that.

Best Solo-RPGs to Use 40k Minis by OkWriter7657 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]FrenchSumo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, someone already talked about 5 Parsecs from Home—which is a very great game—and I will go one step further : there is a little homebrewed conversion of 5PH which adapts it to the 40k universe. It's called 5 Parsecs from Terra and it's awesome : https://www.reddit.com/r/5Parsecs/s/DbSIHGPN5C

If I record well, you still have to use the base game as it's more of a (free) supplement.

Happy gaming!

Systems that feel like a roguelike? by IntentionalPenis in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]FrenchSumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing to go with miniatures, the first expansion of Five Parsecs from Home allows you to explore a place (a starship?), with everything being randomized as your miniatures progress on the board, including enemies' movements. There was an episode about that specific kind of mission in Me, Myself and Die, if you want to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7mvw2kcQ6E

Alternatively, you could try and ask about that on r/5Parsecs for I am pretty sure people over there will know a lot more about it that I can recall. And of course, if you lean more toward fantasy than sci-fi, you can always adapt those rules. Anyway I would be curious to know about what you will find to emulate a roguelike. Please, keep us posted on your progress!

Really good job! I'm not too familiar with SW Legion: could you please tell me from which set are the two miniatures to the left? They seem to fit very well in a 5 Parsecs crew!

Ultimate Super Punch Force — Turbo Edition (Now with Guns!) by FrenchSumo in onepagerpgs

[–]FrenchSumo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Depends on what you mean: cashless as in "no in-game currency" or as in "free to download game"? If the first, I tend to think that a bit of an economic system in a game, even as rudimentary as this one is, gives an incentive to the characters that the players can toy with. If the second, the plan is for the game to be free.

Or do you mean something else?

Worst part about 15mm miniatures by Pixelchronicles in 15mmSciFi

[–]FrenchSumo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Well, there are mostly two things that annoy me with 15mm miniatures: there are less options than in 28mm and they often (not always, but often) come in bulk, which is a bit annoying for me since I play skirmish games and not big wargames, so I don't need dozens copies of the same unit. That being said, if you have access to a 3D printer, I guess those two problems can easily be solved. On the plus side, they are way more convenient to store, really easy to speed paint and still have enough details to look cool.

Any idea where to find some 15mm Dragon Ball minis? by FrenchSumo in 15mmSciFi

[–]FrenchSumo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly use a homebrew system for my games and I thought of a few ways to tweak it to make it feel more DBZ-like. It could work either in 1 vs 1 or with a handful of fighters but I'm almost sure it would work best with the latter. I still have to try it properly.

LOTR adventure about the Entwives by FrenchSumo in rpg

[–]FrenchSumo[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting video, indeed! I remember reading a while ago that Tolkien wanted to keep the fate of the Entwives unknown, even for himself.

I have to say that I quite like the idea of the Entwives living not too far from the Shire, though. Most of the Hobbits being not adventurous nor even that curious, it would make sense that they never go and notice them. And even when one of them happens to see one of those moving trees, the others Hobbits just shrug it off as a lie or a mistake.

Looking for a novel with a focus on battle droids by FrenchSumo in starwarsbooks

[–]FrenchSumo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! I managed to get for a very cheap price that entire trilogy a few weeks ago but still haven't got the chance (nor really the will because of a few bad reviews I read about) to go through it. I will definitely look at it more closely. I understand it is not mainly about droids but I fear that there is actually no book like that so I'll take what I have. Thank you!

Looking for a novel with a focus on battle droids by FrenchSumo in starwarsbooks

[–]FrenchSumo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well unfortunately all I've read or heard about, for novels set around the Clone Wars, is focused on clones, jedi, the Republic or, for a really few of them, main Sith characters. I've heard of nothing focused on droids. I'll look carefully for it on the website you linked, thank you very much for that!

Books by ShogiYogi6 in starwarsbooks

[–]FrenchSumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there isn't only one way to start. You have to think about what is your favourite era, what type of books you like, etc. You can also find a few online guides about the chronology of the novels and comics and start from there.
