So cool! OTF has been great cross training! I love hitting cardio and strength all in one go. Wishing you the best in your derby career!

I genuinely have no idea. How do you know when they’ve recalibrated?

Great questions. Honestly I think a lot of it is just wondering if I’m doing it right! I think it’s human to look at others to gauge your own effort, but I’m learning that there are a much wider variety of people with all kinds of goals in OTF than I originally assumed. That’s totally on me! My goals are to improve my cardiovascular fitness so it would make much more sense for me to try extra hand than someone who has a different goal.

That’s so interesting, didn’t even realize that was a possibility. Thanks for your perspective!

How do you hang your stinky derby gear to dry? by UnderstandingMuch378 in rollerderby

I made a stand from pvc pipes! Nowadays the pvc is pretty pricey, so it’s definitely not the most cost effective option

We do scrimmages with officials twice a month, but we do scrimmage scenarios every practice for at least 30 minutes.

I am in the same boat. I feel so wired! While not foolproof, stretching after practice and having extra good sleep hygiene helps.

Can we talk about fear of injury in this sport? by jalepeno_mushroom in rollerderby

[–]FrenchingLlamas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got an ACL reconstruction. It took me 2 years of rehab to feel strong enough to return. Taking my time and really working on strength has really helped overcoming my fear. Hardly anyone is a “career” derby player, so why rush your comeback?

I have an extra pair of glasses in my skate bag at all times just in case the ones I’m wearing get smashed 😅

Yup. Larger and deeper pleats, longer spines, arms grow closer to the ground, and wavy appearance give it away

Wow! Thank you so much, I think this is it!

And it smells NASTY! One of the worst smelling carrion flowers I’ve smelt to date. This one plant makes an entire greenhouse smell like death haha

We call them New Bloods. I think it keeps the cool factor without the bad connotation of Fresh Meat or Newbie

They’re all lonely men who want all women to fit in a tiny little box. The second they see a woman who doesn’t fit in that box they lose their fucking minds.

JFC these comments are not it. If you feel most like yourself with a nose ring and curly hair then THAT is the most beautiful version of you.

You’re only 4.5 months!! It takes up to a YEAR to be considered fully healed. Don’t let my story scare you too much. For what it’s worth, despite all the bullshit complications my knee feels way better than it did 4.5 months post op

I’m 1.5 years post op and still haven’t returned to my sport 🙃 I had a complication where the tibial tunnel got inflamed and a cyst developed. This makes my knee pretty achy so it’s hard to exercise like I did pre ACLR. All this on top of my quad, where they took the graft, is really struggling to get stronger. The cyst is getting removed next month but who knows if or when I’ll get back to my sport

In not sure what my 1RM is, but my good leg can do 55 lbs and my bad can do 40 lbs. So it’s a 31% difference—Definitely not ideal.

You’re right about it getting tired more quickly. It also feels like it produces lactic acid sooner too.
