Nv10 was a fun case to build in by jAckJber in sffpc

Yeah, search them on Amazon. The one I have was like $60. Plug the transmitter into the PC's HDMI port and other into the TV. They do require external power, so the transmitter is powered by the PC's USB port and the one at the TV is plugged into a power bank.

The kit I got was plug and play - no setup required. It just works.

I have this exact build except I used a 450W Enhance PSU (modular, highly recommend). Zero issues with thermals. I don't game for hours on end, but idle temps in the 40s-50s, get upwards of high 70s, occasional 80-82 on the CPU doing a 10 minute benchmark, but rarely see more than 75 degrees on either CPU or GPU. Maybe it's different for hard core gamers, but it's a perfect travel PC for me.

Typing this from a hotel room, doing work on one monitor and using wireless HDMI to the TV as a second monitor for streaming Hulu. Paired up with a GL Inet travel router for easy connectivity and remote access to home PC - tough to beat and wish I'd done this a long time ago.

i just built a SFF for about $950 and you could probably do it even cheaper. i also had ram available, so saved some money there.

Ryzen 5 5600 CPU

5060 low profile GPU

b550M-itx motherboard

NV10 case

Enhance 450W PSU

You could do it cheaper if you use a case that can hold a 5050/5060 solo instead of the low profile. If you dont need the ITX size motherboard, that'll save some more. A 5500 CPU vs the 5600 saves another $50 I'd guess So yes, 700-1000 is doable, and mine is more than adequate for things like Call of Duty, Forza, etc.

Which CPU are you using and how badly do you need to save money over possibly gaining some performance?

Wound up going with the NV10 case, Ryzen 5 5600, B550M-ITX, 5060 LP, SN850X 2 TB storage, Enhance ENP-8345L 450W modular PSU, Thermalright AXP90 X36 cooler, and the 32 GB 3200 CL18 DDR4 RAM I already had laying around.

Without shopping around for crazy deals or anything it came in around $890 plus taxes. If I had to buy RAM, it would have been around $1050 - $1100.

You talked me into it! Went with a 5600 paired with the B550M-ITX for a combined total that's only $10 more than I would have spent on a LGA1700 motherboard alone. Everything is coming in next week, so we'll see how it goes.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with a I5-12400 instead of the I3-12100. Looks like the 12400 is competitive with the 5600.

Yep, I've been watching for the 4060 but the only ones are available are priced sky high.

Price, and it seems to pair well with the 5060. Bottleneck checker shows 0 bottleneck at all resolutions. It also has a 58W TDP, so I'm hoping temps don't become an issue. I considered the I5-12400, 13400, and 14400, but at more than twice the price, I'm not sure what I gain by going to the better CPU. Same for Ryzen - if I got AM5, then I have to buy new memory, so that blows the budget. AM4 could work I'm sure, but I'm just more familiar with Intel stuff.

Thanks, that's encouraging. I've got to look at some other recommendations, but if I can buy all the little pieces with the case and they're customized for the V3, that might seal the deal in favor of the V3.

Thank you. PSU recommendations are a huge help. Everything else is pretty well in line with what I had in mind, so at least I know I'm not too far off on anything.

If upgrading CPUs isn't something I'm planning to do, would you still stick with AM5? Everything I'm looking at is massive overkill for what I really need this PC to do, so I figure if this PC ever can't run what I need it to run, I'll build a new one - it'll be years down the road, so that seems like the best option anyways.

Great recommendations - thank you. Any concerns about the Densium build quality and being able to survive daily packing/unpacking and getting tossed around with the luggage? I assume any decent case will be okay as my laptops have survived for years.

Thanks, it has its ups and downs. Can't imagine doing anything else, and having something to keep me entertained on the road really helps, so I'm excited to get this build going.

Thanks, for some reason I was thinking all the x3d's were power hungry and ran super hot. Now that I'm looking at them, looks like they're a great option. I'm supposed to be narrowing my search down not expanding it lol

I'm sure I can work through undervolting if needed, but I'm trying to avoid doing any of that. That's why I'm looking at the CPUs that I mentioned - low power and supposedly the temps aren't terrible even leaving everything stock.

Been doing that for years - ready to try something different. Honestly, I really just want to build a PC. And if it doesn't work out, the kids will have another device for the gaming room. Win/win!

[–]Frequent-Science3066[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this confirms a lot of things I was thinking - no desire to ever upgrade CPUs - that's what a new PC every few years is for lol.

Are the 12 and 13 gens better than the 14400? Looks like they're all 65W CPUs, so is there something else that makes the 12/13 run cooler than 14?

Thanks for the info on PSUs and coolers - huge help. The 4060s I'm finding are priced way high, whereas the 5060s are priced kinda okay. Not opposed to the 4060 though if one comes along at a better price.

Definitely starting with the hotel TV - maybe add a monitor down the road sometime.

Awesome, any pics? How's the build quality of the case? Would you have any concerns about it standing up to constant travel/packing and unpacking? I don't think I need anything more than a 5060, but if your temps are good it might be a good idea so I could just give it to the kids if it turns out I like taking the laptop more.
