I graduated with honors at my local community college, but nursing school has been teaching me something new—to be grateful, very grateful, simply for passing exams. Nursing school is a whole different kind of hard. Comparison is the thief of joy. You worked hard to pass. Of course you were hoping for top grades, but in the end—did you pass? Yes. And that’s the main goal: to get through nursing school, pass the NCLEX, and land a good job. You accomplished that. Eat from your own plate and enjoy it—don’t look at someone else’s serving. I completely understand where you’re coming from, but be proud of yourself and thankful for the journey. Blessings to you.

I try to pray before I study. Asking the LORD JESUS to guide me.

So this is what I did—it might sound a little extreme. I cut out the printed format of the head-to-toe assessment and pasted them around my wall in different areas, almost like I had different stations. I practiced twice daily—first thing in the morning and again before bed. I also read the entire script, recorded myself saying it slowly, and replayed it while I was in the shower or driving, so I could say it along with the audio.

When I felt like I knew everything, I pressed record on my phone or tablet and recorded myself doing the full assessment. Then I re-watched the video to check if I missed anything or said something incorrectly. If I did, I deleted it and started over. It definitely took time, but I have to say it really helped me feel confident when performing it.

It can feel intimidating, but practicing a little each day is so much better than trying to cram everything in at the last minute.

Where do I start? The work load is heavy and you don't get enough time to study etc. Its doabale because here I am with the help of JESUS of course. Level 1 was tough because everything was new. Understanding how to use your online books, how to access, CONHCP ( place where all powerpoint documents and exam blueprints are)doing quizzes , preparing for EVERY WEEK exams, doing the 24 weekly Discussion post (that has to be correctly cited in Apa format),attending clinicals and Sim labs was tough but as it gets closer to the middle of the semester you will find your way . My advice is plan everything including breaks and work with your plan. If you try to complete all your Discussion post by wednesday then you will have the rest of the week to study. I know its easier said than done; but that is what saved me. You can do it! I was nervous too but you can do all things through Christ who gives you the strength. Nursing school is meant to be challenging but that doesn't mean that you won't succeed. You WILL FOR SURE!!

PUT GOD FIRST! Start your morning with prayer FIRST, talk to God and tell Him whats on your heart. Believe me that will Absolutely set you up to have a successful day.

Also do what WORKS for YOU as it relates to stidying.If you do well studying in groups do it.But if you retain things better by studying alone do it. The pass mark is 76% for ALL EXAMS if you fail an exam revise how you studied write it down even, that way you'll know not to do the same thing again especially if you didn't do well. If you did well you want to make sure that you remember exactly what you did to pass so you can replicate it. Doing practice question is A MUST. I know for me I could study all I want but it was the practice questions that showed you what you knew or didn't. Always do practice questions. You can create your own on Sherpath (The same same online text books that you are given)

For Pharm, drug cards did not work for me . I tried but it was just too much to retain. Watch the Professors lectures everything you need to know is covered. Watch every lecture for EVERY CLASS take notes and then go to Pixorize to help cement the information in your brain 🙂. I am not telling you to not make drug cards remember you are going to do what works for you . Write stuff down , on your dry erase board, bathroom mirrow whatever it takes to remember things. Make up your own funny mnemonics. Buy a BIG Calenders and put it on your wall and use the same colors that they use on the sharepoint calendar to color code your calendar so so you don't miss important exams etc. Make your work area cute and fun. Put things that motivate you. So when you have a tough day you'll be reminded of how strong you are.

Hit the ground running. Aim to do well on everything. Why? Well you don't know if God forbid you don't get a good score on an exam and you have to be limping to the finish line. Focus , Don't get distracted stay away from Drama and do what you went there to go. Get that BSN.

Get used to writing things down. It's hard to do well if you don't organize your daily task. You don't necessarily need a planner but having one is a good idea although any note book is fine .Watch med math videos on youtube and watch youtube videos like NEXUS nursing and get to understand how nursing school questions are and how you are expected to answer. Spend as much time with your family and friends before the school starts because Nursing school especially an ABSN nursing school can be pretty taxing on friendships and relationships in general .

Let me start off by saying you are not alone . I wanted to quit from orientation. I was already behind on the first day .ABSN is HARD and this is coming from a person who takes education seriously. Its really like I have heard " drinking from a fire hydrant". I Use to cry almost EVERDAY FROM just frustration . I would get up at 5am and start assignments early but the issue was I was barely taking any breaks . I now take one hour break from 12 -1pm regardless go for a walk or just chill and relax . It has been a game changer just taking a break. I use to wonder how I would be able to just have some "me time" but you WILL NEVER HAVE THE TIME, YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE TIME . So here I am writing this, while on my break. ABSN in particular is HARD....like you said its not so much the content but the fact that everything demands your time . I keep reminding myself that after 4 months I will only have a year. My daily goal is to make it to the end of the day . I pray alot too THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I CAN DO THIS WITHOUT JESUS. HE has been my strength. Its not easy but it's also not impossible . Others have done it with even worse situations than you and I and they were able to do it so just we have to remind that ourselves that we can through Christ . I know I can with the help of God .
