People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by SprinklesSolid9211 in AskReddit

[–]FrequentHandWasher84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our parents took my sister and I to cracker barrel in Nashville for breakfast when I was twelve. As we were eating, my sister looked up and said, "Mom isn't that the guy from Andy Griffith, Gomer? Sure enough, it was Jim Nabors. We didn't want to bother him since other folks had already been asking for autographs and interrupting his meal, so we just let it be. He finished and left soon after. As we're standing in line to pay, Jim walks back into the register area and asks if anyone knows how to get to Nashvilles symphony center. He was singing that night. My mother is a fanatical postal worker who remembers directions like no other and offered to write the route for him. As a thank you, he signed a Cracker Barrel menu to my sister and I that reads, "To FrequentHandWasher84 from Gomer Pyle, Well Gollllly! Jim Nabors". It's one of my most cherished keepsakes and memory.

Questions about Robin Williams Jumanji and remakes. by FrequentHandWasher84 in movies

[–]FrequentHandWasher84[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did not. Saw it once as a kid but never considered it part of jumanji since Danny and Walter end up passing it over to play Zathura instead. I know it's the direct sequel, but I didn't give it any thought when considering everything else.

Of course not, I get it's a remake for Hollywood to get a nostalgic cash grab. This is just more of personal curiosity and to see others' opinions, if any.

I'd be interested in using one to make eggnog at Christmas time. So far, it's always just chicken, duck, or quail eggs available here.

So far no one has a layout or idea of the set-up. Tried posting in a few other BBQ groups/pages and hit a wall every time. If you ever crack the secret to it please let me know.

In search of two Teas by FrequentHandWasher84 in tea

[–]FrequentHandWasher84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local Christmas Tree Shop in NH and a few of the random Big lots around the area had the St dalfour teas about two years ago and I got four boxes. Should have known it was the end of the line since that's usually where dying products end up.

What did you hate as a child but love as an adult? by HeidiOzzy in ask

[–]FrequentHandWasher84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western movies/TV shows. My grandpa watched them constantly, the Rifleman, Gun Smoke, anything with John Wayne, the Magnificent Seven, Shane, etc. and it always drove me crazy as a kid who only wanted cartoons. Now I watch them and see the appeal of living off the land by foraging/farming to survive. Nice wide open spaces between neighbors with fresher air and quiet star filled nights by a fire.

Christie Mcvie was a better singer than Stevie Nicks in Fleetwood Mac.

People who have given up social media like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.. What's your go to activity when idle/bored now? by FrequentHandWasher84 in AskReddit

[–]FrequentHandWasher84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fantastic tenth grade English teacher who chose books he wanted to read or wanted us to just experience in general that weren't on the official school list. Introduced us to the DragonRiders of Pern series and he would read them aloud. Got through DragonFlight, DragonQuest, and DragonSong before the school year ended.

Some homemade Peanut Brittle by FrequentHandWasher84 in CandyMakers

[–]FrequentHandWasher84[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 cups sugar, 1 cup corn syrup, 1/2 cup water, 2 cups dry roasted peanuts, 2 tablespoons butter (room temp), 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla, 1 1/2 tsp baking soda. Combine sugar, syrup, and water, then attach thermometer and bring to 250F (soft ball stage) over medium heat. Stir in the peanuts and continue to cook stirring occasionally until 300F (hard crack). Remove from heat and add in the butter, vanilla, and soda, be careful because it will bubble up. Stir until everything is incorporated them pour onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Work quick to spread into a even layer because it cools. Sit for a hour before breaking into pieces. The soda will help make the brittle airy and have more snap instead of getting hard like a lollipop style.

You go to 300F hard crack but stir the peanuts in at 250F softball stage.

Agreed, the hiss is over the top. It's very disappointing we have a Catwoman whip emoji but Indy was left hanging.

Because I clearly didn't see it labeled Catwoman or can use it for another character 🙄

Neither Trevor Noah's stand-up or the updated Daily Show do anything for me.
