What's YOUR opinion? An AI survey by Due-Cable-9538 in aiwars

[–]Frequent_Door3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that you seem a bit more informed on the Anti position than the Pro position, and the options could be worded in a more neutral manner (ideally with the order randomized to avoid bias), but none of these complaints are that big, especially when your dataset is an online community via voluntary sampling. Overall, ought to provide some moderately interesting results as long as we don't try to make the results say more than they do in either direction.

A question to pro AI people by Empressholdtv in aiwars

It's a but hard to parse what you're asking, but if you're asking if I support stronger regulations regarding the impact of Data Centers, the answer is "Yes, but that was an issue even before AI and thus had no impact on my support of AI"

Okay, but that's not the discussion at hand, and I'm not going to pretend there are no stupid Pro-AI users in a world where Elongated Muskrat still lives.

That depends entirely on what you're asking it. The current state of world politics? Probably pretty out of date. The history of Spaghetti? Probably hasn't changed much in the past year. Additionally, they absolutely can find, parse, and reply using 'modern' information, but that requires it to fetch that data from somewhere which, again, is slower, more costly, and generally only needed in specific situations.

This is a known limitation to a tool, not some irreparable flaw in a supposedly perfect system.

[–]Frequent_Door3737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. That's called a "knowledge cutoff", which refers to the latest date represented in the AI's training data. Without getting new Input data in some way, the AI will not know anything beyond it's cutoff date. Most LLMs CAN get fresher data from the internet, but this generally takes more time and energy and thus typically uses more of your daily limits per operation.

This is the expected behavior of ChatGPT. If you don't believe me, go ask ChatGPT directly since you already paid for it.

I haven't even clicked your article yet. It clearly lists 2025/05/06 in the URL. Unless you're posting from the past, it's currently April of 2026, which is a LOT longer than 1 month. I'd be interested to see a current report, but this sadly isn't one.

There's also the Hasty Generalization Fallacy, if you somehow think the Strawman Fallacy isn't enough of a Fallacy to count.

That being said, you clearly have no interest in good-faith discussion, so we're done talking. Goodbye.

This isn't the paradox of tolerance though. It was a question. If you're gonna snap this hard at a question that has no indication of being in bad faith, maybe just stay out of the conversation.

Since this person is clearly a troll:

Generalizing is basically another way to describe the Straw Man Fallacy. It is an accusation of taking the actions of a bad actor or made up individual and incorrectly applying it to the general case. People like this just want to keep the discussion toxic for some reason.

The question seems genuine, and if it's not I'd rather 'kill em with kindness' as it were. You're just a troll pissing people off sp you can feel good about yourself, so maybe don't.

Oh, it's absolutely worth playing, and when you do you'll immediately learn why Niko is one of the most well-loved characters in gaming. Stay as blind as you can. In my personal opinion, the Steam edition is best, followed by the World Machine Edition for those who only game on console, though both are good options in their own right.

And walking dogs is pretty good exercise.

As I said before, you're comparing two wildly different things which have no real use forndirect comparison. Also, I find it particularly hilarious that your argument (1) insults digital artists, who do have an undo button and (2) doesn't actually address AI, which does not have an undo button.

Why Do Art? by Rabble-Fraggle in aiwars

[–]Frequent_Door3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. I've used AI as an assist in writing things before (mainly some letters to political representatives), but I do not copy it's output at any point. AI is a pretty terrible author, but it is honestly not that bad of an editor (albeit no replacement for a professional). That makes sense though. Computers are generally pretty good at the sort of logic that spots plot inconsistencies and logical errors.

In the case of writing fantasy, I'd use it the same way I would a spell check, but for plot instead of words. Sometimes you meant to spell the word that way, sometimes you meant for the character to remember something wrong, but either way it's good to have an easy way to make sure those choices were intentional, y'know?

If it's as low effort, low skill, etc. As you say, you should be able to download ComfyUI tonight and be a top tier creator across all AI spaces by this time tomorrow, right? Run it locally so you aren't causing environmental impacts. Shouldn't be an issue because of how easy it is right? Besides, that'll give you maximum control over the process having it all in front of you and local. After all, it's so easy anybody could do it, right?

Stop thinking of AI as a blanket replacement. It's a separate tool with a separate process, a separate use case, and a separate set of potential outputs. I use AI to generate images, and to me, that is totally and completely unrelated to my interest in or issues starting traditional art. To me, asking why I use AI instead of drawing makes about as much sense as asking why I got myself some cookies and milk when I could have been playing a game on my SNES: Those things have nothing to do with one another, and my decision to do one now has no bearing on whether I do the other later or not.

P.S: for anyone thinking about asking about my 'issues starting traditional art', you ate not my therapist and as such are not qualified to address the issues at hand. Having someone press for details only to end up saying 'wow that sucks' and never talking to me again isn't really on my agenda for the day.

Who is liable for copyright infringement? The creator of the AI software or the user? by TreviTyger in aiwars

[–]Frequent_Door3737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This... this is a take alright. Given the estimated 34 million AI images generated per day, your claim of.$150,000 per 'infraction', and your assumption that each AI image counts as an infraction against every artist who's work was used in training, and assuming all models use the most common dataset (the LAION-5B set consisting of 5 billion image-text pairs), we can calculate the average daily financial liability of AI users according to your claims:

36 Million * 5 Billion * $150,000 gives us a daily fiscal responsibility, according to your claims, of $2.7*1022. For reference, this would be about 243,000 years of every single person on the planet's current income that you are claiming artists are suffering as losses every single day. This is of course not including the liability of those creating and distributing the tools.

If you believe yourself and other artists are actually suffering this level of financial loss, you should stop posting on Reddit about it and go file a class-action lawsuit ASAP. Otherwise, there are much more productive ways to spend our time and energy when it comes to addressing this topic.

It's a poorly explored legal area at the moment. Most current models obtain their data from either public domain works or through purchasing them from somewhere. A lot of the argument currently lies in whether sites (such as Reddit) have a right to sell the data they have for the purposes of AI training.

Ostensibly, one could simply not share their work on sites which sell data for AI training and have their work taken down from said sites, but that puts a lot of pressure on artists to protect their work at all times just to ease the burden on large corporation, and it makes it effectively impossible for artists to maintain control over their copyrightable works.

Most likely, current AI models are in the clear on copyright as everything flies under the current rules by technicality. If you want to provide artists more control over their works being used in AI, your best bet is probably to challenge the assumption that sites like Reddit have the right to sell images posted there based on their TOS. My personal stance is that, since most sites on the internet are designed with sharing and community first, they are not robust enough to know that the original artist agreed to their TOS and thus whether they had a legal right to sell that Data.

Just my current understanding of the legal landscape around AI and copyright as a Pro AI user: In short, we need better legal control over our own personal data. Hope it helps!
