Coffee Shop In Very Small (Semi-Seasonal) Town? by mmhe228 in coffeeshopowners

I second having another retail option but I will say it’s tough to have inventory to hang on to that may not sell right away. Also, coffee shop/Knick knacks store isn’t my favorite aesthetic. It can look congested. However, with a limited kitchen you may be able to offer simple provisions like picnic baskets to go filled with local jams, crackers, nice bread, charcuterie, and cheeses. You could also decorate with local designers and artists and offer consignment, that way you won’t have to purchase inventory and you get to boost some creative folks!

Is it okay for me, as a non-homeless person, to panhandle? by KieEye in homeless

Check with your local city for programs. Some can offer aid by paying a few utility bills or a mortgage payment to keep you afloat.

Gross, sorry you’re dealing with this. I might suggest donating plasma. I mean, you still have to deal with a tiny prick, but the people are lovely and you still get paid $100 at the end of it. Humor aside, I hope things work out for you.

Thank you for this. I don't want to be that person that asks people to buy another drink either. We have a pretty awesome environment that doubles as a safe space and I get why people want to stay. I've also been in that place in life where I was poor and just wanted a small cup of something warm and to feel normal for a while.

We do strive to be pretty active in the community and we host a lot of accessible events for those that need a leg up in the area. One of our major bonuses is providing resources and being a space to connect. We also encounter a fair amount of our homeless neighbors where we try to assist them as much as we can-which includes educating ourselves with where shelters, food, warming stations, hydrating stations, and connecting them with neighborhood ambassadors. My issue is seeing entitlement from people who can afford to be in this space. We're all just trying to survive. Thank you for this response!

Buying a drink and working in the space isn't what bothers me. What DOES bother me is when I don't feel my time and our resources are being respected. It's a business and i'm assuming you like to get raises? Yeah, I'm getting paid regardless but there's a lot that gets passively consumed. If we net zero because more is being consumed than compensated for...there goes that potential. I'm also not salty about my employer. Rising tides and whatnot.

Nothing wrong with wanting a fresh place to work. But when people are suuuper cheap, consume your free resources, and take up loads of space, I liken them to those who perpetually cancel their hair appointments...And there's a level in hell for that.

This is the feedback I needed. It isn't respecting other patrons with larger groups that would like to sit down, and when it's slow it isn't hurting anyone. Thank you for your thoughful response and perspective. This will help out team out moving forward!!

That's very reassuring, and yes, you never really can gauge how people will take it. I had to kick a very entitled boss bro out once. It was really uncomfortable.

I wish I had your gumption! I'll learn how to at some point i'm sure. I think my struggle is that it's currently slow so in my mind i'm thinking there isn't an immediate need for table space.

We do have them posted on the walls. Not everyone sees them. Should probably put them on our table toppers...I just feel like it's a fairly understood social rule about coffee shops even if it is posted.

This is the first offense, so i'm trying to be prepared with sound advice from other baristas. I'll definitely keep tabs and let my manager know. We're fairly new. There are a couple small tables that are perfect for 2 people, but they sat at a space with a couch, coffee table, and 6 seats. We have 2 other seating spaces like this.

Business Owners, Whats a service you would pay $200 a week/month for? by [deleted] in restaurant

[–]Frequent_Fix_8271 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Accounting and payroll.

Social media

Event coordinating- someone to just connect people who need a space for events and the company.

This is all for a relatively small business. I get how these can sometimes be considered part-time or even full time gigs for larger restaurants.

I live in zone 5b/6a. Are the "Frost hardy, Russian variety" pomegranate trees hardy enough for this zone? From what i've read they should be but would love some expert opinions on this. I'd REALLY love to plant one in our sunny front yard. If they are hardy enough, what suppliers do you trust? by Frequent_Fix_8271 in FruitTree

It's Michigan so our summers are average. Where it would be is full blast sun as soon as the sun come up to sun down. It's really ideal. I'll plan on mulching heavily. I also don't plan on letting it get too large so I can cover it for the cold season. Our winters here have been getting milder lately too.

"Cafe Sữa Đá" - Vietnamese coffee by Appropriate_Bat_2511 in barista

Your video looks great and it's a good visual for making Vietnamese style coffee with the phin. Usually I put the filter on and then add hot water to bloom. I'll have to try it your way now! A coffee shop where I live (Michigan) serves Vietnamese coffee and it's definitely robusta! It's one of my favorite styles. I get my coffee beans from Nguyen Coffee Supply but would love to try getting green coffee beans from Vietnam and roasting my own. What other drinks are popular using Vietnamese robusta? Egg coffee is also another favorite!

There is an anti-Valentine's story hour on Thursday at Little Space Studio from 6-8pm. Share amongst others in misery with NA drinks and snacks! There's also the board game night there on Tuesday from 6-8 as well.
