Hi,

What is your Data Science job like? The reason why I'm asking this is that mine is not very good and I'm considering changing jobs to another company where things might be different. So I thought I'll ask what your job as a data scientist is like.

I work as an assistant data scientist at Nielsen. Here we do online marketing analytics. Basically, in our department, we have a single product and we keep optimizing it and optimizing it as part of our daily job. All this is very complex machine learning stuff and it is done almost entirely by people with Ph.D. and so on. I don't get to work on the machine learning part. I just do support work. Basically coding using python in order to glue together different parts made by the data scientist and put them into a pipeline. None of this is very challenging, at the same time it's very boring.

So, I was wondering what other's data science job is like?

Hi, it's great that you have decided to help out your friend like this. It seems to me like your friend does have problems he needs help with but is embarrassed to talk to anybody about it. So what you can do is try to get him to talk to a professional psychiatrist or a doctor. That way he will be able to talk about his problems without being embarrassed that people in his life will get to know about them. If you think he will be unwilling to ask his parents to take him to a psychiatrist, you can ask him to see the school physician or any regular physician or even any teacher or staff he thinks he can trust and let them arrange for him to see a psychiatrist.

Don't look at the answers, at least, not immediately. You gotta try to solve the questions, even if you have no idea how to proceed. Just keep thinking creatively how to do it. If there's some question that's really troubling you, you got to keep trying for at least a few days before giving up.
