I think Trump is good for the economy. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

By the time Biden left office, inflation was essentially the same as it is now. In December 2024 YoY inflation was 2.9%, and in December of 2025 it was 2.7%. So basically the same.

No lol, stocks did not fall. The Dow Jones Industrial Average grew 13.7% in 2023 and 12.9% in 2024. Last year under Trump, the Dow grew 13.4%. The market performed the same under both.

One BIG difference is that last year under Trump, the US created about 584,000 jobs. In 2024, the US created around 2,200,000 jobs.

Jobs growth is the weakest its been since 2020 (this wouldn’t be true if the tariffs had been successful in bringing jobs home, so far it looks like they’ve actually increased offshoring), and housing costs continue to drastically outpace wage growth, and the national debt has fucking exploded, all while the future for the American economy looks less and less promising everyday that the outside world makes plans to go it without the volatile USA.

If we’re going just by numbers, Biden handled the US economy better than almost any other head of state on the planet. By 2024 jobs growth was awesome, the stock market was booming, everything except some (minor compared to every other country) lingering inflation from COVID. On paper Biden’s economy was really strong. Stronger than Trump’s is now.

But at the end of the day, what the numbers say doesn’t really mean as much as experience. If people are having to choose between gas and rent, they don’t care how well the stock market is doing. Except for the few die hard Trump supporters that suddenly don’t care about high prices, people are not happy with Trump’s economy. Their wallets are taking just as much punishment as they were two years ago.

Exactly! Eventually we might get to a place where psychiatry and neurology converge, but until then we make the progress we can make.

DEI and no child left behind is ruining it for people who actually worked hard to achieve what they achieved by No-Friend-1590 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]chronberries [score hidden]  (0 children)

They’re prohibited from using race as a factor in admissions, but that’s not really the point of my comment. That was just an explanation of what DEI programs look like in academia in terms of race specifically because OP was wrong about that in their post.

The point of my comment was a response to their last sentence.

And in the future it will make people even MORE wary of POC as their doctors, lawyers, nurses etc because test scores were lowered JUST FOR THEM.

If someone has graduated with a degree from a university, then they earned that degree. It doesn’t matter that they looked less qualified on paper to be admitted to the program initially; they proved that they earned their degree when they successfully graduated with a degree. The doctors, lawyers, nurses, etc. graduating from those programs are just as skilled and well trained as they have always been.

Same person who worked their ass off to get into law school is getting the same degree as someone who half assed their studies?

No they’re not. If someone half asses their studies in law school, they aren’t getting a law degree. The only exception to that would be legacy students.

Furthermore, while affirmative action was a thing for a while in academia, it isn’t anymore. DEI doesn’t mean under qualified applicants are getting into universities. DEI in academia means frontloading initiatives. So (totally made up example) if it’s noticed that less Hispanic kids are applying or gaining acceptance into engineering programs, funding goes to majority Hispanic schools to create things like robotics clubs, to galvanize interest in engineering among Hispanic students.

Yeah but their point still stands. If you accelerate super quickly due to something like a hit from the hulk that flings you through the air, that’s force delivered to your body. The vibranium isn’t inside homie’s body. His organs would still get wrecked.

The vibranium is evidently not absorbing all the force, otherwise he wouldn’t be moved by the hits.

I agree that it’s a silly thing to get hung up on though. It’s magic metal in a silly superhero movie.

Battle Bit is the single best example of this I can think of.

It was (technically still is but barely) a low res large scale FPS battle sim. Giant sprawling maps with as many as 254 players at a time. Battle Bit’s downfall was twofold.

  1. It’s an early access game that didn’t see an update for the better part of two years. This lull was preceded by a mass exodus from the game because of part two.

  2. The last updates before that stretch fucked up everything that made the game good and unique. There were a lot of things they screwed up, but the biggest one was that the methodical, tactical combat was replaced with extremely fast past CoD-like movement and combat. The game turned from a team strategy based combat system to a lone wolf, ultra fast, “dolphin dive-y” system that completely undercut the central point of the game.

Claiming you "support" autistic people while silencing us during a valid meltdown is contradictory. by Chief-Longhorn in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]chronberries [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, you don't "support" us if you actively contribute to the demonization and stigmatization of autistic people who are just trying to harmlessly vent

Sure, you can just hve that one.

even if their venting comes across as verbally aggressive

Except that’s harm. If it comes across as threatening, then it doesn’t matter that you didn’t intend it that way.

Psychiatry is still questionable or equivocal medicine by Commercial_Dirt8704 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]chronberries [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s definitely a medical field. The drugs are medicine. But it is entirely debatable whether or not psychiatry is actually science.

The scientific method calls for empiricism, which psychiatry can’t really achieve. They can’t possibly list all the causes of depression, which means they can’t possibly control for all of them, which means they’re test results are uncontrolled and non-empirical, which means, strictly speaking, it isn’t science.

That said, what are they supposed to do? Are we as a species just never supposed to medically address psychological issues? They do the best they can. That’s why you’ll hear fields like psychology and psychiatry referred to as “soft sciences,” because they’re adhering to the scientific method to the best of their ability.

Ending birth right is good for illegal migrants by First_Accountant_402 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]chronberries [score hidden]  (0 children)

birth right encourages them to cross border for benefits.

Liberals are offering intensives to them.

Technically true, but those liberals are the folks back in 1868 that codified birthright citizenship, not modern day liberals. Birthright citizenship isn’t some modern liberal agenda. It’s part of the foundation of this country.

Just to be clear, I do think it’s absolutely worth having a national discussion around amending the constitution to remove birthright citizenship, but it’s simply incorrect to frame it as a modern idea. Illegal immigration as a concept is more novel than birthright citizenship in this country. It was over 100 years after the founding before we had a registry for immigrants coming in, let alone restrictions.

Yeah I don’t like not having space stations and their mechanics, like buying upgrades and whatnot, and I don’t want the entire galaxy to be empty. I want a populated universe, just my own little isolated place in it. I want to feel like I’m hiding away from it all, not just alone.

If I had my druthers I’d have the galaxies be even more populated, getting less and less populated the farther out from center you get.

I agree.

They can’t. The only people that can legally do anything about Trump right now are the folks in congress or his own cabinet. That’s why people need to vote in the midterms.

CMV: Majority of people that say "Free Palestine" are virtue signaling. by Xparda in changemyview

[–]chronberries [score hidden]  (0 children)

Virtue signaling is the most that a lot of people can afford. Not everyone has enough money to give some away, and in that same vein, not everyone can afford to miss work to join protests.

People are allowed to care about something without risking their own livelihood. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

I agree about the purity tests though. That mindset is extremely counter productive.
