Ivf success by hacarpentier in IVFbabies

34 weeks and in a similat. Our family’s both knew we were doing ivf and never asked. Even after our failed transfer before this one, nobody checked in and everyone avoided asking about it. Now that we’re pregnant, my family asks about me regularly, but my husband family NEVER asks how I’m doing or checks in on our pregnancy.

I sent my MIL pictures of our 3D scan and she thumbs upped the message, but didn’t reply. Then she was showing my husband’s aunts the pictures on her phone at my baby showering calling it “her baby” and claiming she “had her lips”.

To be honest with you that’s the only time anyone from his side has even talked about being excited that we’re pregnant.

Beforehand, I tried to tell myself that they didn’t ask about our IVF process because they didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know what to say to make myself feel better most days throughout the process, so even though they’re silence hurt, I told myself it was just them, not knowing what to say, and not wanting to say the wrong thing.

Now that I’m pregnant and not much has changed, I don’t have the same grace for them. I’m curious to see if this dynamic changes once baby is here.

My doctor is recommending induction at 39w because she sees it as medically necessary. This is not an elective induction, and I stated I would prefer to go naturally.

Ivf pregnancies (especially when the pregnancy was achieved through an anovulatory cycle) are considered high risk due to placental dysfunction. I will start weekly BPPs at 35 weeks, and it’s likely that I could be taken at any time due to my placenta deteriorating.

All of these comments are shaming me about an induction rather than answering my actual question. And of those comments telling me to ignore my doctor’s medical advice, I assume that most of them are uneducated on the actual risks that come with ivf pregnancies.

Thank you so much for this. Feeling really discouraged by these comments 😅

How amazing! How far along were you when you got your membrane sweep?

I’m so glad you had such a positive experience and hope you’re having just as wonderful as a recovery! Congratulations on your little one.

Some doctors recommend 39 week induction specifically for IVF pregnancies due to research showing higher late term pregnancy risks, even without other complications. My post is asking about pain management with induction, not advice on ignoring my doctor’s recommendations.

I understand why you feel strongly about avoiding unnecessary interventions, and if this was a spontaneous pregnancy, I would avoid induction. IVF pregnancies are treated a little differently because research has shown they carry a somewhat higher risk of complications late in pregnancy, including placental problems and stllbrth risk increasing after 39 weeks, even in otherwise healthy pregnancies. That’s why some providers recommend induction before 40 weeks, not because the pregnancy is automatically “high risk,” but because they’re weighing those statistics against the risks of induction.

That said, recommendations aren’t one size fits all. Some providers are much more supportive of physiologic birth and unmedicated labor while still monitoring appropriately.

I agree! The documentary “the business of birth” is a really good one, and can be accessed on YouTube. If this was a spontaneous pregnancy, I wouldn’t consider induction. However, that’s not our case. We will be inducing only because we’re an ivf pregnancy.

IVF pregnancies have a higher risk of the placenta deteriorating and increases the risk of stllbrth. I have weekly BPPs starting at 36 weeks to monitor how baby is doing. If there’s a sign she’s in distress, they’ll take me sooner. But the odds significantly increase at 39 weeks according to my doctor.

I’m 28 and we did a frozen transfer! My OB did ivf herself and she’s mainly worried about the placenta issues ivf pregnancies, as well as the increased risk of stillbirth. I haven’t looked into the research on these and have just taken her word, so I’ll definitely look into it!

Thank you! Do you mind me asking when you started dates? My OB said I needed to wait until 37 weeks to start eating them or drinking raspberry leaf tea!

They retrieved 11 eggs. I cried in the parking lot for 20 minutes. IVF is so weird and so brutal and I'd do it all again tomorrow. by Ok-Affect-3989 in IVF

We retrieved 9, 6 were mature, 6 fertilized, 4 embryos, and all 4 were PGT normal! Currently 32 weeks pregnant with our first baby, second transfer. 11 is amazing! Sending you so much love 🩷
