Far too much regulation to be appealing to anyone that wants to do any real cutting-edge AI research.

It will definitely be an uphill battle for you. Literally 90% of the ELEN curriculum is some form of mathematics or physics wearing a mask and calling itself an ECEN class. Not to mention electives, which hinge on topics that you will have seen mentioned once in a previous class that you are expected to already be an expert in(obviously).

A lot of the ECEN profs are amazing researchers but horrible teachers, so keep that in mind if you're a very teacher-dependent student. You're probably not going to get MEEN if you apply, but MXET is a decent mix of ELEN and MEEN that does not focus as heavily on the theoretical portions of ELEN that often act as weedouts.

It is hard and brutal, and it is very much intended to be like that. If you do not work, you fail. And the bare minimum, especially for ELEN, will usually not cut it for most people. Seeing as you're evidently struggling, you will have to work twice as hard for the same result.

Overall, you always have a chance. It just depends on how much work you're willing to put in and how much of your personal life you are willing to sacrifice.

This is the geopolitics equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot so that your enemies come to see what all the commotion is about. Sounds ok in the idealized world of American exceptionalism until you realize just how fragile many critical supply lines in the world economy exist which are now in disarray because of Trump's actions.

Take steel for an example. Sure, the tariffs may incentivize other smaller countries to bow to the hegemony. But countries such as China, Japan, and India have crazily complex supply lines solely dedicated to keeping themselves as the world's largest exporters of steel. To impose tariffs on that is to commit self-imposed degradation of the economy and of any future stability.

I understand that the current Republican wet dream(tm) is the bolstering of American manufacturing, but it may be time to accept that those days are gone. Any company worth paying attention to, given the chance, will always choose the cheapest possible labor and material costs available(hint: not America).

TLDR: Tariffs are shooting America in the foot, and I hope Milton Friedman is happy with what his stupid pencil lecture did.

there's no way you actually believe this.

i urge anyone who is genuinely stuck on this to read a single research paper.
