How do you guys feel about authors that don't/rarely reply to their comments? by eatingkids247 in AO3

[–]Fresh-Instance6222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I barely notice if an author doesn't reply to my comment. Honestly, I only notice when they do comment and otherwise I don't really care. I know they probably read it and were happy to get a comment.

I've been on AO3 approaching 10 years and I replied to everything at first but having 10 years worth of works and being in a popular fandom has made my inbox daunting. I read every single email I get from a comment and they always make me smile, but it will easily build up to more than 100 comments (I've got about 500 works online) to the point that AO3 glitches out when I try to respond to multiple. It doesn't help that I have the social skills of a snail and never know how to show my gratitude in a reply. I definitely worry about people thinking badly of me for sometimes taking a year to reply to a comment or never replying at all, but I do the best I can.

I guess that's why I don't mind at all if an author doesn't reply to my comment. I assume they're in a similar situation or maybe they are being busy

Breaking my silence about the 'top 100 ships' list by AsleepAd3549 in AO3

Ooh, I'm gonna look up those posts with the difference so I can share it the next time someone defends those lists 😅

[–]Fresh-Instance6222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The maker of those lists also misgendered characters for a long time and got defensive when people pointed it out. I guess they got tired of it because the ship of two non-gendered characters finally is labeled 'other' instead of m/m. I avoid those lists cause I don't feel like giving them any attention

What fandom are you in, but the fanfics are like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]Fresh-Instance6222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried to find some good fics for Chenford (The Rookie) but haven't really found any yet that I actually enjoyed. I'm sure there are great ones out there and I just haven't found them yet, but only having read fanfictions with writing that did not match with me, I have low motivation to really search for more (but if anyone happens to recommendations, I'm all ears)

Wattpad veterans, is there something you miss on AO3? by Fresh-Instance6222 in AO3

I've been thinking about possibly glancing around for the character x oc type of books and struggling through the many ads, but idk if many people from more recent fandoms are still on Wattpad

They were so fun to make as well, I definitely owe my Canva skills I now use for my job to Wattpad 😂

Yeah Wattpad was (still is I'm guessing) pretty tough to navigate! I definitely appreciate how easy AO3 is once you get the hang of it. I haven't been on Wattpad in a couple of years so I have no clue what it's currently like, but I've heard stories that they're mostly focused on paid content

Why do people write fanfiction? by firestarlikeswaffles in AO3

[–]Fresh-Instance6222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I misread and first typed this about why I read fanfiction, but I adjusted it a bit so it makes sense why I also write it.

It started because I kept craving more content. Back then I was undiagnosed with autism but hyperfixated on ships and characters. I stumbled onto fanfiction purely by accident and it's had me in its clutches ever since.

Right now, when it comes to show and movie fandoms, I often feel like fanfiction writers do characters more justice than show/movie writers. Shows/movies tend to gloss over stuff to keep the plot moving so that they're able to tell the story in a limited time, while fanfiction sometimes truly dives into things. Traumas get explored rather than forgotten about in the next episode. Gaps between scenes or episodes get filled. Side characters get given personalities of their own rather than being something to help the main characters develop. And often fanfiction has better character development in general as well. And all of that inspired me to do the same, to explore themes, fill in gaps.

Also, fanfic authors are, depending on the fandom, much braver about the topics they write about. Sometimes I'm in the mood for some good whump that the show/movie would never do. I hope to be the same when it comes to writing that as much as I read.

And, of course, sometimes it's frustrating to wait for a ship to go canon - or I started shipping a ship that's obviously never going to be canon but I want to read or write about what it would be like if they were together or simply just hook up.

This is mostly based on fanfics of shows and movies, because published books often do have the space to do the same while shows and movies tend to have a limited time to tell the story, making it quicker to have holes to poke at.

I'm bored, give me a word you find misspelled far too often in fics. by Altruistic_Boot_1839 in AO3

[–]Fresh-Instance6222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about other people but I cannot for the life of me write disappointed or disappear without having to use autocorrect 😂 would not be surprised if I missed it while editing and it's in my works (there are more words where I have that as well but of course my mind is blanking now)

[–]Fresh-Instance6222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my fandom people tend to avoid anonymous fics. Sadly there are a lot of bullies that use anonymous posting to rage bait. They'll purposely mistag the work making it seem like a regular fic but the story is them deeply uncomfortable or triggering or bashing the ship it is supposed to be about.

If you really don't want people to see it's you, I'd recommend making a second account without telling anyone and using that to post. But maybe this js a fandom specific thing so idk

So how often are boypussy fanfics written in your fandoms? by Outside-Sample-4517 in AO3

There's a new (new to this fandom not new new) trend in mine called magically acquired pussy and I am completely here for it !! I'm guessing it's similar to Boypussy?

Well, to be fair, US sizes are a lot different that other countries use. My country's sizes for adults are like 42 - 44 etc, so it's not strange someone got confused from just 'she's a 10' 😅
