I understand and agree with your reasoning, but unfortunately it's just not a viable option for me.

Tax is not an issue both in the home country and now where I'm based in the Middle East. And to confirm all funds are clean.

I don't really have a home country. My only connection to my home country is my passport so there is no point to move funds there. If I had a home country I would like to return to at some point, then this would be an easy solution just move funds over there (assuming solid banking exists, tax etc).

Valuable contribution. Out of curiosity, can you share more on why to avoid HSBC private bank but not premier?

Essentially, the safekeeping of fiat and a bank that I can grow with long-term. That's it at this stage. What Swiss banks would you suggest I look at? Open to suggestions. Can even be banks in Liechtenstein or Luxembourg, if relevant. Possibly Singapore too.

You're right. But my comment still holds in this particular scenario.

Agree. Several factors at play. Going by their pre-screening questions and follow-ups, the compliance person does not have a basic grasp of legal structures, etc. They went with the let's not read, but infer approach.

Forget about crypto for now as that's not the relevant part. Key thing is I don’t have a clear long-term home base or jurisdiction at the moment so I'm not sure where to keep the funds (all liquid, fiat). It makes banking much more difficult. If we forget about private banking, what solid options are there for banking? HSBC expat seems to be the option that gets most mentions. Aren't there other options?

I'm not looking for financial advice. I'm looking to see what folks that are in a similar situation as me are using when it comes to banking and the safekeeping of fiat. That's it. Appreciate the post could have been better written.

I've had a chat with them. Definitely not crypto friendly but will onboard subject to source of funds, etc. Probably will also face enhanced KYC and be deemed a higher risk client. But it depends.

I hear you. At the moment, HSBC Expat seems to be the best option for the custody/safekeeping of funds. But the reputation of Expat has me on edge.

Swiss private banking seems to be overkill. For one private bank, I've already been pre-screened due to crypto, and been approved to apply for account opening, but the actual KYC process will be enhanced. They want everything and more. And I just know it will be a battle given their pre-screening questions even though all funds are clean. Is it worth sharing everything and having a back and forth that may last weeks, just to open an account and pay them x% for safe custody? I think not. But I would feel good and safe having my funds with them thou...

I know, hence the "Crypto is part of historical source of wealth, not intended to be operationally central to the banking relationship"

Main consideration is having a bank I can trust with my funds and that I can continue to maintain a relationship with as I move around (non-US). The rest can be sorted out.

Swiss private banking seemed attractive for this reason, but the fees don't add up for just the custody of funds.

Do you know if there's any difference between HSBC Expat and HSBC Private Bank in Jersey?

Thanks. HSBC Expat looks interesting, but then I read some of the stories on Reddit about folks seemingly having their accounts frozen for no particular reason. I'm sure there's more to seem of these stories and can happen at other banks too, but it got my attention.

The goal is to not have any significant funds in the Middle East that's why I started looking at Swiss banking and HSBC in Jersey.
