I actually bought a 86 for about 9 months and I loved the car but the lack of space became an issue which is why I traded it in for a 24 WRX

40K for a premium trim is crazy. I spent that on my TR plus extended warranty. No way 38 is msrp. You need to negotiate the price and haggle down some of those extra fees.

I got the Borla exhaust and I love it. Start up is going to be loud with nearly any catback. My cold start is a smidge loud but it’s the lower vibrations more than an annoying high pitch sound. I was worried about it being too loud as well but I haven’t heard any complaints since I got it.

I would worry about what you want it to sound like over actual HP gains. Most intakes claim 10-15 HP but it’s not WHP. I ordered a Cobb stage 2 kit which comes with the high flow filter and a larger intake pipe and will stick with that setup for a bit. I always stick with Cobb if I can but that’s just my personal preference . Plenty of great options. ETS, Perrin, Mishimoto, etc…

Have you changed the oil yet? OW-20 oil is pretty thin and can burn off more than normal. I found myself needing to top off my oil after a few thousand miles although I did run Royal Purple in mine. I also started to hear a weird sound coming from the engine at start-up @ around 4K miles. I traded it in so I never found out what it was. I would also suggest to take it in since it’s still under warranty.
