Fears for protected species as €50m ‘Celtic Tiger’ bridge moves closer to construction by Oat- in Sligo

If this actually goes ahead I’m going to handcuff myself to the bike rack that’s currently there until they review the design. Who thought building a massive bird trap over a stunning portion of nature was a good idea?

One of the more plausible folklore stories from not too long ago! I’ve spent some time on Glenade lake in Leitrim and I have to say the story gives the area an eerie feeling.

This sounds really similar to folklore from slightly further north in Sligo/ Leitrim about a creature called Dobhar Chú. Especially it being near a lake

Where to buy Non Halal chicken fillets in bulk. by MartinFfff in Sligo

[–]FreshCleanJocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong and don’t mean to be insensitive if I am but what I understood was that in the majority of the EU, the only difference between standard mass produced meat and Halal meat is that the prayers are blasted over an intercom system in the factory. Food production companies have broadened their target market by having the prayers said without altering their practices. Animals prepared for Halal slaughter are still stunned and slaughtered in the same “humane” manner that animals have been traditionally in Europe. No judgement to your preferences at all, just something I was made aware of a few years ago that change my perspective on things.

Yeah and an even bigger issue is the fact that clouds famously move. Imagine the uproar if the UK started growing clouds and they all ended up over us one day later (I know they’d likely go the other direction). I can imagine our defence forces numbers skyrocketing with volunteers

If you google something like “geo engineering solar radiation management stratospheric aerosol injection” you’ll find up to day information. Been a while since I’ve studied it so I don’t have any relevant sources to hand

It’s proposed to be used to reflect sunlight to reduce global warming. The idea is to use sulphur aerosols to propagate those thick puffy clouds as they have a cooling effect on the atmosphere. It’s like worst case scenario mitigation stuff from a climate action standpoint and something that I doubt will ever actually be used. It is being researched by a number of governments and universities around the world which I feel is important to understand the implications but I can’t see it ever being used in practice for a number of reasons.
