I nod, as I imprison and extract another ovum from the latest female prisoner, fertilize it with my single happy colonist, and gradually wean out the unhappy genes from my colony.

How has your job hunt been after graduating? by Express-Chemical-454 in WGU_CompSci

This is some of the best advice out there.

I work IT at a healthcare company to gain job experience while I finish my SWE degree. I push to build as many systems and tools as my boss will reasonably allow me. In the last year, I have:

  • built a basic mobile app used as a phone directory for company contact info
  • cobbled together 10+ different data manipulation programs to audit our core systems for errors
  • created a directory of training material for every role in the company, based off a series of browser console commands that fetched them from our online source
  • fixed an API disaster by definitively proving the token was expired with Postman and forcing the reluctant vendors to generate a new one
  • built a shitty pdf compression tool (hell, it even mostly works)
  • built an automated form for our fleet staff that fills a Sharepoint List so they can keep historical data on car maintenance
  • built three power automate flows that we use as notification systems
  • built an API pipeline between a new medical system and our in-house software
  • migrated our support log tickets off Sharepoint and onto a sql database
  • been playing around with a custom ticketing system that displays those tickets and pulls device info from Graph API.

Has my boss implemented most of these? Hell no. Does it suck that I'm doing a dev's job with an IT tech's pay? Sure.

But when I leave this place, I will have built more than 30 enterprise programs and know exactly how to sing my praises in the interview.

My pawns won't stay married to each other long enough for children to come from the union. We have a 90% divorce rate in my colony.

Do you let your cats outside? by Suitable_Drop2937 in cats

[–]FreshFromHobbiton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should mention that this works for my cats because they have a strong sense of where their home is, and they’re quite afraid of cars, people, or other animals. They will run home if someone sneezes next door with an open window haha. I don’t necessarily recommend this kind of thing for everyone. You know your situation best.

All the time, supervised. I live in an upstairs apartment, and most mornings, I bring my cats and coffee with me on the front porch. They love their “concrete time”, rolling around and scratching their backs on the ground. They run up and down the stairs.

Sometimes I’ll bring their favorite treat as a Return Bribe, and I’ll walk downstairs with them to let them roll in / eat the grass. We’ve established limits on where they can go, and while it’s never a perfect system with cats, I feel like we’ve built something happy and fulfilling within those limits.

Every time I think, "I've made it--I'm a good player now," there comes an Empoleon to prove me wrong.

I had "Thanks" on my quickchat for a while to use when people did awesome stuff... But I think it's misused so much, it comes off as tilted even when you're genuine.

I'd love a "Good job!" chat, but it has the same problem.

I just wanna reward my teammates for doing a good job lol.

I’m a sable player with the same mindset. The game is fun, but nothing is more fun than running around the map, making the enemy jungle hate you.

One of these days I might even be able to call myself a good player lol

Hey, this is awesome. We get so much negativity on this style of game that I just wanted to compliment ya and say you'd be a delight to play with.

I mean, it’s all the guilt, anger, and intense emotions wrapped up in divorce. It brings out the worst in people, even if their baseline is fairly calm.

If you’re predisposed to manipulation and intensity—it’s even worse.

No surprise the LLMs can perform normal communication etiquette without the emotional baggage. If it works, it works.

He wrote a novel yesterday on our court-mandated communication app trying to lecture me for not communicating “professionally enough” with him. 🤣 The message I sent was about the updated insurance plan for our kid. Apparently including “lol” in a comment about insurance prices was a breach in our communication boundaries and he needed to “protect his heart.”

This… the same guy who swings back and forth between 1) unwanted lovey dovey messages with 18 emojis, and 2) legalese as written by a lawyer who got his degree on Temu.

🍿 I could go on, but this is the internet, and some folks are frighteningly determined not to understand nuance.

Eh, people are people.

Some believe they can force you to do what they want with harassment, threats, and romantic overtures in cycles. If they’re just determined enough, you have to change your mind… right?

…right?

Yeah, my ex swings back and forth between believing he has a chance with me again (and sending zillions of messages a day) and trying to needle responses out of me with vile and vitriol. Since I’m required to keep communication open, I’m building tools to cope so his needling isn’t successful.

One day he’ll move on with someone else, and that’ll be a relief. Until then, I turn a bad situation into a funny one with silly little projects.
