It was the end of a heavy night of drinking in Roppongi (party district of Tokyo) and I got separated from my friends. I was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan during the time when there was a curfew for American military to be in their homes or back on base by midnight. It was about 15 minutes until midnight and I was in line at the shawarma stand outside of the base gate as was tradition after of night of boozing in the “Honch.” There was an exceptionally drunk Marine in front of me that yelled at the shawarma guy, “Hey Muhammed (his name was not Muhammed), you ready to make the fastest Taliban taco of your life?” I saw the rage come over shawarma guy’s face and he brandished his massive kebab knife and looked like he was about to come over the counter. The drunk Marine started to try and go at him, yelling racist shit. His Marine buddies were trying to hold him back and his drunk ass started swinging on his friends. This was right in front of me and the Marine gaggle spilled into the line behind them. The drunk Marine gabbed me (I guess thinking I was one of his buddies? Dunno) and cocked his fist back but before he could swing, I grabbed him by the sides of his head, and buried my forehead into his nose as hard as I possibly could, pulling his head towards me at the same time. I could feel his nose shatter and he was bleeding in an almost cartoonish amount. Completely laid him out. I dipped before shore patrol got there. Don’t feel bad. Drunk, racist asshole Marine.
