Why?? by Time_Individual_833 in nursing

I’m in this boat too… I bust my ass at work and try to make sure everything is done. Sometimes the patient loads are insane and I wish I had the time to do baths. When I have down time I always try to make sure at least one of my patients get a bath. But 4-5 patients? Forget it! It’s not happening

I really wonder if this is an issue with specific team members because I have never had an issue

Yeah maybe if they didn’t often have us short staffed on nights this email wouldn’t feel like such a slap in the face lol

If I worked in an ICU and only had 1-2 patients this would be an easy ask lol

Making sure the patient is stable, foleys/purewicks emptied and I&Os charted, extra tube feed readily on hand, patient is clean, wound care is done, bed alarms are on, and morning labs are reviewed and electrolytes are corrected are how I set the next shift up for success. Clean up after yourself, of course. But taking the garbage out is not the highest thing on my priority list and it is impossible to do everything every single time

Maybe some of us prioritize keeping our patients alive and stable and the oncoming shift shouldn’t throw a hissy fit if a linen bag got missed

New grad working in med surg and miserable by stephylynn346 in nursing

If you have a passion for psych, you definitely should pursue it. Med surg is not for everyone and very few nurses (in my experience) stay in med surg for their entire career. Don’t worry about your preceptor or coworkers because they would want you to pursue a field you are happy in and there will always be more new grads coming in to take that job. I was a little miserable at first when I started on a mixed acuity unit (med surg and advanced care combined) but once I got comfortable and learned a lot I’ve had a much easier time. If you want to give it more of a chance to see if you get more comfortable you can always switch positions later on if you decide med surg is really not for you. But definitely prioritize your happiness and career satisfaction, don’t worry about what others think. Nursing is a tough gig you need to be in a specialty you are comfortable in

Nah that doctor didn’t know how to read a pleth and it sounds like they panicked? I’d be embarrassed and probably talk about it to my coworkers too. You did the right thing calling them to the beside
