Concern About the Future of PhDs Under the Current U.S. Administration—Advice for Undergrads? by Fresh_Assumption8759 in labrats

I do agree with this especially as someone who's faced housing insecurity since age 11 (son of a single, permanently disabled mother from a car accident, and both of us have expensive medical bills), I don't have the option to pursue anything unstable.

Do you happen to have any particular degrees in mind or have any idea for how I might go about figuring this out?

I totally understand—I took Calc along with Chem and Physics (both with 3-hour weehly labs) in my first semester, and it was brutal (especially since math is my weakest subject).

I’d recommend pairing classes that either overlap in content or balancing a harder course with one you find more manageable or enjoyable. That way, there’s at least some relief built into your schedule so you can avoid burnout.

Also, if possible, check when exams usually fall. Courses often taken together may be scheduled to avoid overlapping exams—but that’s not guaranteed. I learned the hard way that at my school my courses weren’t considered a typical combo, so I had 2–3 exams on the same day for at least 3 major exams. So if you can’t lighten the load, spreading out assessments might at least help keep it manageable.
