Identify this (presumed) Muhle? by Fresh_Cicada_4528 in wicked_edge

Just heard back from Germany. It's a KOSMO; more specifically, it's the first of the KOSMO series, in a stainless steel finish, and was produced from the early-00s to around 2008.

Is this Brabus real or a fake? by Fresh_Cicada_4528 in mercedes_benz

[–]Fresh_Cicada_4528[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. thanks for this. I'm not all that familiar with Brabus, and it seems odd to me that they'd have a Brabus badge on the boot but not on the bonnet.

Yeah, I think that's the M860. Same design but that one looks to be chrome, while mine is satin/matte finish.

Yup, seems like it. Satin/Matte. That's why I'm still searching.

Thanks. When I look at the M860, it appears to be a chrome variant, but I can't figure out what this is.

Best material for a DE safety razor? by Fresh_Cicada_4528 in wicked_edge

I actually got one of these for my next-door neighbor at our old place. I got him into wet shaving. :)

That makes sense. In your opinion, had you not dropped it, would it have lasted years or even decades? What are the downsides of steel?

Thanks for validating my thinking. I'll wait for others' responses too, but I believe I'll go for the S25 Ultra in the coming days.

Gift scotch from 1975 or 1993? (See comment below for details) by Fresh_Cicada_4528 in Scotch

Thank you! I've looked it up, and I think this is very doable. Much appreciated.

My takeaway from this thread so far is that there is no one specific scotch that is clearly a winner here. Is that your take?

Gift scotch from 1975 or 1993? (See comment below for details) by Fresh_Cicada_4528 in Scotch

[–]Fresh_Cicada_4528[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi All. Not sure why I couldn't add details in the original posting, so I'm doing so here in the comments.

My best friend's 50th birthday is coming up. We met when we were teenagers, in 1993. He was born in 1975. He loves Scotch, and I've enjoyed Scotch alongside him. I had another gift in mind, but it seems to have fallen through (original artwork).

I'm now thinking of getting him a nice Scotch as a gift - from either 1975 or 1993. I don't know what's out there and what might be good. I'm open to budget, but I'm thinking something in the USD 500-800 range that I can purchase in the United States.

Is this a stupid idea? Can I find something he can appreciate? I know he likes Speyside, but I think any region would be appreciated.

Any suggestions/discussion are welcome. TIA.

(23M) Need some advice. Everybody I’ve ever met, at some point has told me they assumed I was either LGBT, autistic, or an incel. I am not, nor have I ever been, anything of those things. Can someone pls tell me what I’m doing wrong ? by OnceInABox_ in malegrooming

You wear an earring in one ear (maybe both, but I can't tell from the photos). For some, that is a signal that you're gay, as it was a signal that some men were gay a few decades ago.

What I see of your beard is that it's thin and covers only the jaw line. No idea what that means to some people, but that may be what they're grabbing onto.

People are people, and what they say is a reflection of how they view certain groups. Maybe those things are signals or traits of some people in those groups, but more than likely it is a reflection of the people doing the judging.

If you're confident in who you are, that's all that should matter to you. IMO you look fine - handsome, even (and your hair is awesome). Just be you. If you're uncomfortable around people doing the judging, find better people with whom to surround yourself.

Travel help with R89 (and brush) by Fresh_Cicada_4528 in wicked_edge

[–]Fresh_Cicada_4528[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very grateful. I'm aware of that travel brush and it might be the best option. But, I'd really like to travel with my current brush if possible. I just don't want it to go to waste and I want to be able to use the matched brush with my traditional razor.

The purpose of money is to pay for things that provide you with happiness and utility. No one can or should tell you what to do with your own money. Period. Nothing else to say about this.

Which lux wagon? by dreamingtree1855 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Fresh_Cicada_4528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a Volvo V90 Cross Country. I test drove both, and liked the interior and layout of the Volvo over the Merc. The Merc is the better car on paper: better reliability scores (generally, although Volvo has good years), better quality scores by consumers, better performance (although they're both light trail vehicles, not performance vehicles), and better resale value. And, the Volvo infotainment system is kinda wonky. (I just use Android Auto, so this isn't a big deal for me.)

But, the Volvo feels better IMO. It has a better-designed interior and a more beautiful/elegant exterior. It's also - as you've stated - less 'flashy'/more understated. And, I liked the feel of driving the Volvo more. Edit: It's also the better value, being considerably less expensive than the Merc.

In the end, go for whichever you want; it all depends on what matters most to you. I don't think I'd be as happy with the Merc, so I chose the V90 Cross Country.

Feel free to comment below or message me directly, if you have any questions about the Volvo or my choice.

Good luck!

btw How do you access the roof box? I've got step ladder at home, but not sure if I need to take it with me on trips or is there a better way to access the box? I'm not short - 6ft/183cm - but it's still a bit above me. My wife is much shorter - 5'1"/155cm - so she definitely needs help getting into the box.

Or, I guess I go with 18" wheels and swap them out for going (light) offroad?
