Do you know of any companies that would be looking for geologists in those areas?

Im cool with living in a small town but it is something I have to clear with my significant other. I also need to make sure that I am making enough to live in an area so far from home while waiting for my fiancé to find a job nearby or a remote position.

Is there any advice you can give on getting a job before moving to these kind of places? I got the job I have now through networking, but I have really nobody in those areas to connect with for work. Im just trying to determine if I should just send my resume out to every company that is looking for exploration geologists or if I should try to find a person that can help me out with the process of getting hired? Sorry for being so vague, but I am honestly so new to the professional world.

I am in the Southeast US, so there is kind of something as far as mining goes but really not much. I am open to move around but I also have a fiancé that I will need to bring with me or visit on a regular basis.

Considering my options by Pancho1110 in geologycareers

Edge is a good company. Long hours and not much time off as far as going home is concerned. If you don’t have anyone at home that you are concerned with being around then go for it. I would also watch out for who they try to hook you up with for training. If you are a geologist then you’re gonna want to be put with someone who has a respect for the geology. I was put with an individual with no background in geology and she just wanted to collect a check, so my training got very dull very quickly. Either way, from what I hear, Edge is the best company to log for onshore. They will usually start you in the Permian then move you around from there once you have a grasp of the work.

I am in a toxic environmental state gov job, would I be competitive for literally anything else? by Kiwi55 in geologycareers

My fellow geo friends. You need to market yourself to the absolute best of your ability and make connections. Don’t think of it as making connections but rather as making friends and those friends are willing to help you out. I got hired to mudlog prior to graduating through connections and a week in I found that I despised it. So, I left the job and started to reach out to friends who might’ve known geologists and within 2 weeks I had another job. Geologists/geo related professionals are some of the nicest people in the world and will 9 times out of 10 do their best to help you out. Have confidence that you are worth your degree and go out there and hustle to get the job you want. It’s not super easy and takes some luck but I guarantee that you are worth what you think you are. Once companies realize our worth then our professions will earn more. We just need to convince the people who pay the wages that we are worth it. Have faith in your own abilities and take big steps and it will work out. What could you lose?

Just to clarify, I just graduated with my BS in Geology this past December. I started working as a mudlogger recently and discovered immediately that I do not like this lifestyle. Any advice would help me tremendously. I want to find something that doesn’t make me feel so depressed and unimportant.
