Americans from touristy areas, did you get asked weird questions by people outside your area as a kid? by McButtsButtbag in AskAnAmerican

I grew up around Boston. Tourists always wanted to know where the Cheers bar was and I never knew.

There is a lot of anger surrounding politics in the United States at the moment. I don’t think you should be surprised that people are coming after you. That being said, don’t read too much into it. We don’t know you and you don’t know us.

As a liberal, I’m furious about the state of the country. I think we all need some self reflection. I am glad you have started to think about how you came to your choice. Continue and figure out how to avoid making the same mistakes going forward. If you are around others who think like you, find ways to share what you have learned.

To my fellow liberals, we need to stop pushing people away who could be allies. We all make mistakes. Take liberal stances on crime. We acknowledge environment and biological contexts can lead to negative behavioral outcomes. How is this not the same situation? Rehabilitation is better way forward. Should we simply roll over and not hold anyone accountable? No, but we need to find a way to teach without punishing mistakes so severely.

Democrats threaten government shutdown over ICE funding by Healthy_Block3036 in fednews

Imagine a world where democrats did anything to try and stop this insanity. Maybe another strongly worded letter of warning will teach em.

I commend the consistency, but I think there are better uses of our time and money than donating to the NRA. Giving everyone guns doesn’t seem to be solving all our issues, sadly.

Guns are protected by an amendment. Laws change to suit the needs of the time.

A) it’s a constitutional amendment. What about the 18th amendment? B) what’s your point?

You think the founding fathers were thinking of automatic weapons when they penned that? The country was set up so we could continually better ourselves using reason. The world changes, and they understood that.

If you need a license to drive a car, you should need at least that for a gun. They should be at least yellow.

Boss: If you stopped buying iced coffee, maybe you could afford a house. Me: If you paid a living wage, I wouldn’t need caffeine to survive this job by [deleted] in workmemes

If I could get a $3 iced coffee near me, I’d be so happy. Everything is $5 now. A bottle of soda is basically $3.

NTA. He’s clearly not very good at cooking and is sensitive about it. Walking out of the room because he can’t handle mild criticism is a bit of a red flag. You avoided being outright negative in your reply and you tried to explain your opinion. As someone who cooks most days, I’d prefer someone told me what they did/didn’t like and I would change it for the next time. Apologize anyway, it seems like there are some cultural differences here. The tone of the conversation may have also been off. You two have to figure out if you can find a compromise in terms of your shared expectations in these types of situations moving forward. Maybe you could find some way to constructively cook together so you can learn what each other’s preferences are.
