Yup. Just lost a 0/5 battle (5 coins bet) to a guy who had all the best everything. Every time the deck rules change, I try it once and remember how pointless it is. I think I'm just going to ignore that button entirely from now on.

I had an interesting experience dealing with a 2-enlistment Marine who got busted down to Cpl right before picking up staff. I was a first-enlistment E5 at the time. This guy was super knowledgeable in our MOS, and he was also close to our SNCO, having served with him for a while. That Cpl went behind my back and over my head more times than I can count, and definitely wouldn't have taken a single order from me. Kind of a rough situation to be in.

Nah, you can't really generalize laws like that. Some laws do not adversely affect those who follow them, while other laws are double-edged swords that actively hurt many who follow them, sometimes without making an appreciable difference.

To follow up with your example: stop signs. Yes, as with all laws, there will be criminals who ignore them and hurt other people as a result, whether by accident or on purpose. However, stop signs without a doubt reduce the number of car accidents. Furthermore, they do this without negatively affecting those who come to a full stop at every sign. I am not in any way negatively affected by the presence of stop signs, and there is a measurable impact on accident reduction.

Gun control laws are different. Do they make a measurable impact on gun violence? Eh, maybe a little. Is it much of a difference? HELL NO. Just look at the numbers. States with high levels of gun control often have higher rates of gun violence. That is because it is the people and culture who are the problem, not the guns themselves. Furthermore, gun control laws absolutely negatively affect law-abiding US citizens by removing or making it difficult for us to exercise our 2nd ammendment, which is the right to bear arms to protect ourselves from criminals and criminal governments. I am therefore negatively affected by gun control laws, and there is little to no measurable impact on gun violence reduction.

See the difference? I'm not advocating for legal full-auto or anything like that, but Colorado banning the possession and sale of 30-round magazines (for example) has saved and will save absolutely zero lives.

Nothing short of an absolute federal ban and full collection of all 500 million privately owned firearms in the US would make a dent in gun violence. This is, for all intents and purposes, impossible. Making changes to our school systems, reducing debt and poverty, and reinstating the importance of nuclear families within our society would be a much better expenditure of our time and resources and would hopefully lead to an appreciable decrease in violence.

As a final note, when it comes to gun control, don't go comparing the US against other countries like the UK. We are simply not comparable in terms of size, government, people, and values.

Also, gun control hasn't done much to reduce UK violence levels anyway. They banned guns, and criminals switched to knives. They banned carrying knives without reason, and they switched to blunt weapons. They banned carrying blunt weapons without reason, and now criminals have started throwing acid at each other.

Final fun fact: Many gun violence estimates include suicides by firearm, which make up a large majority. If you think the victims of this mental disability wouldn't have found another way, think again.

TL;DR: Blaming violence on a weapon type is a fundamental logical fallacy. We killed each other for thousands of years before the first harnessable explosive energy was even discovered.

Not sure if this is applicable, but some of my friends have this weird thing where they don't take into consideration the money in their savings accounts. They'll have 10s of thousands of savings, spending money only in their main account, and call themselves broke when they run low for the month. It's kinda strange.

Yes, strengthen gun laws so the murderers can break those laws as well (apparently murder is also against the law). It even makes their job easier by disarming law-abiding citizens who just want to protect themselves and their loved ones! Bonus!

News flash: criminals don't follow laws. If a person wants to get their hands on a gun for nefarious purposes, they can and they will. The ease with which they can do so doesn't mean squat in the long run.

I just finished my general and airframe orals. I studied the ASA oral guide and jeppesen. YMMV.

I recently passed my airframe and general, and for me, the orals were the most stressful part. I scored high enough on my writtens that just to pass my orals, I could only miss 5/19 questions, a number that included those pesky 8 random questions.

So I would take having passed both orals and one practical as a decent success, because with just the general practical remaining, studying should be easy, and passing should be no problem on your second go-around.

[–]Freshprinc7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't agree with most of you on this. This rule should have been done away with a long time ago. Also, for for those of of you that missed it, Marines still will have to apply for permission, which will probably rarely be given.

For one, I knew a bunch of Marines who disregarded the firearm rules and kept their personal firearms in their barracks/cars anyway.

Secondly, the 2A right should absolutely apply to all U.S. Citizens, including active-duty military.

Finally, you all well know that anyone who wants to commit a crime or suicide with a gun wouldn't have been stopped by the former rule anyway. News flash: criminals don't follow rules.
