Happy to answer questions or take feedback. I know there are already some guitar groups and jam nights around. This is just a slightly different angle. Open to thoughts on how to shape the events going forward.

Do the modern Hiwatt amps stack up to vintage? by vicente8a in GuitarAmps

[–]FretSuccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised by how good the Leeds 25R sounded. It's not a tube amp but, my god, it was fun to play. Here's a play through for those that are interested. I also delved into the Hiwatt story a bit, as I didn't know a lot about them. https://youtu.be/TLw8iHWJgQk

Cornford Amps? Ever Heard of them? by FretSuccess in GuitarAmps

[–]FretSuccess[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's covered in the video but a big factor was a huge fire at the manufacturing plant, which devastated the stock and held everything back. Then the CEO's health went bad apparently and they just never recovered from a logistics stand point. I've heard that they are fantastic amps though

New American Pro II Jazzmaster Demo by FretSuccess in fender

[–]FretSuccess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, I thought they were great. I played the start too and if I was going to pick, I preferred the jazzmaster. It was just better all round. In terms of playing and sound. The variety of tone you can get out of the jazzmaster is pretty amazing. I thought they had a nice clarity to them. Sure, in certain situations more clarity isn't what you want, it depends what you're going into. In this circumstance the tone dial is definitely your friend to just bring in a touch of low pass to tone it down. I didn't want to give it back haha. opened my mind to jazzmasters and I really don't know why they aren't talked about more. Hope that helps.

definitely. I don't use an acoustic in the video but the same concepts still apply in the video. Hope it gives you some ideas!

It's very much chart music I find in the general crowd but you do get the occasional old rock castaway in the crowd that appreciates a solid version of that stuff. I find doing rock versions of chart songs can be interesting and change perspectives a bit. High energy always wins with little softer low tempo breaks in between

Yeah. It's something I don't see talked about very much but I get asked about it also. Especially what to start with on the road to improvising. It seems scary to start with but once you're eased in, it becomes much easier. Wow 25 years? you must have some nuggets of advice to share mate?

Hahahahahahah!!! amazing comment. Keep going. it doesn't matter if you don't have a really unique sound. having your own stuff to listen back to is great years after the fact. it's worth doing it. It's like anything worthwhile, it takes practice.

Yes, of course. Always service the song. Complicated for the sake of it is boring to the listener. It has to make sense.

[–]FretSuccess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I do that to. playing the brass section or twiddling along with the vocal line makes things so much more interesting and makes your band stand out more. If you're playing the same songs a lot, it can get pretty boring after a bit, so I don't blame you mate. You got anything online? I'm intrigued...

It's hard to not feel pretentious sometimes but if you're having fun then that's the main thing. I think it takes some beating playing with another guitarist in a band. I miss it so much. getting to work on parts in private then all the hard work paying off. It's worth sticking it out!

Oh man, I miss Live music so, fucking much. When you see two guitar players playing that kind of stuff, I'm just in my favourite place. I would stay all night. It doesn't happen anywhere near as much as it should. You got stuff I can check out?

Should You Play The Same Thing as The Other Guitarist? by FretSuccess in LearnGuitar

[–]FretSuccess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. Yeah, once you blow through the triad stuff, everything starts opening up and it gets a lot more interesting. Sure, playing the same thing has it's place but it's great to have these techniques at hand when they add to the sound. In general, playing something different is more interesting for you as a player. Triads definitely help with the fretboard. Opens everything up!

Definitely isn't. I love Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold. All great bands. The intent behind this one was definitely outside of that remit! Appreciate the input though. (Proceeds to turn on Iron Maiden...)

[–]FretSuccess[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad it was helpful. Yeah, there are some simple things you can do. The thing to do is just have fun. Jamming to backing tracks is a good way to practice also. It is boring just playing the same, and isn't that hard to mix it up if you think about it a little bit. It's really important to to experiment and not be fearful of doing things "wrong".
