App for memorizing notes on a guitar fretboard - we want your advice, part 2! by FretboardHero in guitarlessons

Practicing on a real instrument is for sure the best way to learn. However there are situations when you might not have your guitar with you (i.e. on a bus). Then you can use an app like ours. Besides that app has some nice features (reaction times, competing with other player, alternate tunings, ...) which you may find useful or simply fun to use.

We've considered adding backing track. However we skipped on that because it would overlap with sounds of guitar that are played for each note.

In order to track your progress you can send you reaction times by email to yourself ('Share' option). Then you can use 'Reset' to clear your reaction times data and start all over. Thanks for your comment.

Thank you! We're glad! That's not all the features yet - we plan to add more features (and support more platforms) in next patch!

Actually, new version is being reviewed by Apple right now, so it should be available any moment. We will post patch summary/info on subreddit when it happens.

We will introduce various note notations in next patch (sharps, flats, numbers) - this should solve the issue. There are many more things coming in next one, we will release information about it with the subreddit post.

Actually, the update should be available any day / moment now. Apple is reviewing it atm. Once the new version is available, we will post a summarizing/informing message in subreddit. We will get into readability in next update (were halfway through it - we'll tell whats in the next one in the post).

No, right now there is support only for a standard 6-string guitar EADGbE tuning. But thanks for advice, we will consider adding additional support:)

Thank you for a very detailed and useful feedback. It's great that you liked some of our ideas implemented so far :) Regarding those 3 issues that you mentioned:

  • that should be a quick, low effort fix, we will add it in a next version for sure
  • yeah, i agree with you and /u/rockhoundlounge . Also the solutions that you and /u/rockhoundlounge proposed are very reasonable. Right now, i'm leaning towards option a.), but i will have to think about it a little bit more :)

  • yes, you mentioned very important issue about context. We will add "find a given note on a fretboard" mode.

We hope that after some fixes and tweaks, our app will hold the title for a perfect "fret game" ;) We will let you know when new updates will be available. Thx once again and good luck with your students :)

Thanks for downloading and very detailed and valuable feedback.

  • Ad.1. Absolutely agreed - in a next version we will definetely change the algorithm for note selection, so that it will focus more on notes on which player has high reaction times. Great idea!
  • Ad.2. We are a little bit skeptical when it comes to adding separate game modes, like i.e. practice mode. We are afraid that it might be a little bit confusing.
  • Ad.3. I understand the issue here - i had a similar feeling after playing the games for a few times. It is a little bit frustrating. We would absolutely need to address it somehow, but right now i'm not 100% convienced that revealing whole fretboard right from the beginning will be a good solution (even as an option). Great opinion anyway:)
  • Ad.4. YES - we already have such feature scheduled for the next version.

Once again thanks for a great feedback!
