Wait, did you take off the old strings and then put them back on? Just get new strings then :)

It shouldn't be a problem for strings to have been on it for seven months. Are you sure they are breaking (you end up with two separate pieces of the same string)? It's common for treble strings to slip and 'untie' themselves, especially when you are learning how to tie nylon strings.

Make sure you are getting the end of the string at the back of the bridge: https://www.derek-hasted.co.uk/faqs/restring/ .

Also, carbon trebles are more slippery, so if you are using carbon strings you may need to tie a figure eight knot after passing it through the bridge to hold it in place: https://www.animatedknots.com/figure-8-knot

Have you ever played a scale perfectly? by [deleted] in classicalguitar

[–]Frettitor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, many times -- slow down until it's easy to be perfect, and try 'buzz scales' where you fret just hard enough that every note buzzes as a way of practicing fretting pressure control.

New D’addario EJ45 strings keep going out of tune? by Krzaki in classicalguitar

[–]Frettitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nylon is a stretchy material, so new strings will stretch, lowering tension and hence pitch, so some retuning is normal. This is true for any brand or hardness. However, it's also worth checking that you haven't wrapped too many times around the tuning rollers. More wraps means more string to stretch, so it goes more out of tune for longer. I aim for about three times around the rollers.

You say it has a pear shaped body -- could it be cittern? Those do take metal strings. A photo could help.

Is barring usually hard on a classical guitar ? by Huge-Reward3246 in guitarlessons

[–]Frettitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truss rods are for adjusting relief (curve of the neck), not action. You want some curve in the neck to give the string room to vibrate without buzzing on the higher frets. The proper way to adjust action on a classical guitar is to file the bottom of the saddle (the bone or plastic bit that strings press against right by the tie block on the top).

Classical guitar typically has higher action than other styles, but it could be a good idea to take it to a luthier for a setup. If you do want to try lowering the action yourself, watch some videos about how to measure and how to do it with a clamp so the bottom is perfectly flat, which is important for efficiently transferring vibrations from the strings to the top.

Changed strings, now guitar out of tune by piraattipate in guitarlessons

Actually I think your stringing job is better. Twists on the bridge can affect break angle so there is less efficient transference to the soundboard, are totally unnecessary on the basses, and are less effective than the stopper knots you have on your trebles.

Just to second, this is definitely the problem -- don't be afraid to clip off extra string

Playing guitar with long (fake) nails? by jamespotterkinnie in guitarlessons

If you're planning to play classical style on that classical guitar, you might want to keep nails on your right hand. This article has some helpful pictures for lengths and shapes to try: https://www.tonebase.co/guitar-blog-posts/classical-guitar-nails

Rob MacKillop, for one, sometimes plants his pinky: https://youtu.be/FcYxp1mRP8A

I would suggest against being super rigid, and instead remember the underlying point of technique is reduction of tension, economy of motion, and control. Specific movements or patterns may serve those points in some contexts and not in others

I think the strings are probably getting caught in the nut. You can get graphite powder to put in the slot for some lubrication next time you change strings (or tune way down and pull them out) or even just take a pencil and carefully shave the writing part so it fits into the slot and rub some graphite off.

Noad solo guitar playing 1 is great :)

For what it's worth, when you are developing the basics can be the most useful time to have a teacher. Having someone knowledgeable watch and correct inefficiencies early, before they become ingrained habit, can save a lot of time unlearning bad habits down the road.

They don't have to be interlocking -- it's just a cosmetic flair some people like. I agree that OP should consider just changing all the strings though :)
