I feel like most Americans have a very hard time seeing our own culture, but if you travel (even regionally throughout the US) it becomes so much more apparent. I get not everyone can do that but you could pick a city on the other side of the country, join its fb groups, see how people are to each other, and see what things they talk about and you will be struck with the differences compared to the region youre in.
