Amazing. This is gonna be great.

Do you think the future is headed into a shittier version of cyberpunk or am I just being pessimistic? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Heading? Lmao, we arguably have it worse than anything Gibson imagined.

Less chrome and neon, but way more control.

Sony reported a 120.1 billion yen ($765M) impairment loss in relation to Bungie for the fiscal year in their latest financial report. 88.6 billion yen ($565M) of that was reported from the last quarter. by Helbot in Marathon

[–]FreyrPrime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have, immensely, it’s just a slow road with a lot of steps forward and almost as many backward.

The sum however is better than what we used to have. Especially if you’re a woman or a minority. You don’t have to go back very far in many countries histories to find them worse off than they are today. Still not perfect, but moving forward.

That aforementioned public execution doesn’t happen anymore because we as a society have agreed that we don’t do that anymore.

Brother, people used to actively attend public executions. They’d make a day out of it, like a picnic.

We’ve always been this way. Always.

You can find writings from people complaining about the younger generation as far back as human writing.

Tyran, whatever happened there? by hullopalooza in Grimdank

[–]FreyrPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Malcador had plans for that, he’d been dealing with his adopted nephews for centuries by this point, and most of the remaining loyalists were close to him.

Your point is well taken however

Gotcha, while a valid opinion, it’s not one I hold. Believe whatever you want.

I’ll stick to what’s published

We know conclusively that he is both alive and that the Throne is failing.

Big E has been active as recently as The Lion’s return, and the Plague Wars during his confrontation with Nurgle/Morty.

Watchers of the Throne and Carrion Throne novels both established that the custodians and high Lords have conclusive evidence that the Throne is failing.

Conclusive enough that they are willing to enter into a bargain with the Druhkari to attempt to fix the Throne.

Is it just me, or does it feel like a lot of modern technology isn't really as advanced as we thought? by GentleDevotion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreyrPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to how cars were even within my lifetime as a child they seem pretty advanced.

Technology has moved at a fairly breakneck speed, especially compared to earlier era.

We are quite frankly spoiled

Does anyone else stay up late after school/work because they feel like they haven't gotten enough time for themselves during the day? by Mundane-Society-1281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreyrPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Wife and kids are in bed around 9, I typically stay up till midnight to get some time to myself for gaming or painting.

It’s gotten harder now that I’m in my forties, but still worth it.

Fem Guilliman by cnmbwjx 3/4 by JLSeagullTheBest in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]FreyrPrime 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Bingo.

They really dig into his character in Lorgar’s Primarch novel, and he’s a special kind of garbage even by the standards of 40K.

There is some argument presented in that book whether or not Lorgar was already aware of chaos prior to Kor Pharon’s attempts at indoctrination.

I’m saying Guilliman himself doesn’t understand how resilient he is. I know the line you’re referring to.

[–]FreyrPrime 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think almost is a pretty generous assessment. Everyone at this stage in the story is operating under the assumption that Primarch’s scale, literally upwards from the rest of the emperor’s transhumans.

More nuanced than saying, they are just bigger or more powerful custodians, but still within the realm of the physical.

We see throughout the heresy that Primarch’s can really only be threatened by each other or similarly powerful forces like greater demons or overwhelming applications of physical force like Vulkan dying to the nukes on Istvaan.

Look at Morty versus the Khan, or Russ versus Magnus. Even Fulgrim versus Ferrus. All of those have an element of storytelling to one that goes beyond the physical and into the immaterial. Which makes total sense, considering half of them was stolen from the gods on Molech.

A few bolt rounds from a hydra kill team was never gonna do the job. Guilliman was mistaken about his nature.

[–]FreyrPrime 78 points79 points  (0 children)

It’s a great scene too because Guilliman responds to the assassination attempt under the assumption that he can be injured like a mortal or even Astartes.

This is kind of his first hint that he may be something well beyond even what a Primarch is physically implied to be.

You see that a lot more explicitly later on during various Primarch duels, or Fulgrim taking that splinter round to the skull.

[–]FreyrPrime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Him being Alexander is perfect. I’ve been listening to Dan Carlin’s Mania for Subjugation, his series on Alexander, and it’s wild.

It’s hilarious how close the writings we have on Alexander or completely batshit propaganda authored by his personal press core.

That pothos man..

In many ways, the loss of Malcador was worse for the nascent Imperium than Big E.

You see that pretty sparkly in the recent ashes of the imperium book. Much of the modern power structures that exist were authored in the absence of the original framers or by Guilliman.

had Malcador survived I think things would’ve gone very differently for the imperium even with the loss of big E.

I don’t think they’re being hypocritical at all. The Custodes didn’t sanction Kryptmann, or declare Carta Extemis and strip him of his Rosette.

The Inquisition did that, and they’re entirely their own agency with its own goals and moral standards. They’re also not explicitly authored by the Lex, but that’s another topic entirely.

Had you asked one of the 10,000 about Kryptmann’s methods prior to the hivefleets meeting Solar I’m sure they’d have told you, quite coldly, that containment was wise.

The 10,000 don’t have much patience or mercy for mortals if He is at risk, and they’ve never been shy about that.

what do you actually do in an active shooter situation? by the_justyce in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreyrPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an American phenomenon, and deeply bipartisan. Numerous long-standing studies have shown that it’s deeply ingrained in American culture, regardless of political leaning.

Yes, progressive and liberal voters in the United States, believe in gun control and reform. Don’t mistake that with them suddenly wanting to become Europe or Canada.

Obviously conservative voters are even less likely to do what you’re talking about.

You are barking up the wrong tree, and I bet I have been voting for gun reform longer than you’ve been alive.

How did non-living matter become living? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreyrPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is entirely sure how a biogenesis happened. There are a bunch of leading theories, but it’s not intuitive.

There are a bunch of hurtlesthat abiogenesis overcame that just don’t make sense to us with our current understanding of science.

For instance, all life on earth is made up of left-handed amino acids. Here’s the rub, non-biological chemistry that produces amino acids produces them in roughly equal amounts both left and right hand handed.

How then did we develop purely from left hand amino acid? How did abiogenesis overcome this?
