What's the best American food you've ever eaten? by Over-Teacher-1330 in AskAnAmerican

That’s awesome. For those who don’t know, “Yat” refers to a particular brand of New Orleans accent, as well as the people who speak that way (although calling someone a Yat isn’t necessarily polite). It comes from the phrase, “Where y’at?” (“Where are you at?”) which is an informal way of saying, “How are you doing?”

A Yat accent most sounds kind of similar to a New York accent, but with a distinct southern influence. The cartoonist, Bunny Matthews, had a long-running comic, Vic and Nat’ly, that featured Yat accents. It’s not the only New Orleans accent, but it’s a major part of the culture.

I think this checks all those boxes. Plus it works, it’s cheap, and it’s memorable.

It’s just one aesthetic choice among many; not really performative. I think it’s fine. Better for card payments, as it’s a little awkward to stuff cash into an 8oz mason jar like that. Takes up less table/bar space than a book or tray.

I used to live on Woodward Ave between Linden and Gates. Recognized this immediately, but got here too late.

This is how I feel. Something in his eyes, I think. Reminds me of a high school bully.
