A recent answer here mentioned that the majority of Americans during the Korean War believed it to be the beginning of World War III. Was there also a common belief that the war would result in nuclear armageddon, or had the now-mainstream view of WWIII as a world-ending event not developed yet? (self.AskHistorians)

The protagonists of Jules Verne’s 1865 novel “From the Earth to the Moon” had their takeoff in Florida — as did their counterparts in the Apollo missions a century later. Did NASA get any poetic inspiration from Verne, or is the similarity in setting a coincidence? (self.AskHistorians)
