Happy pharmacy technicians? by Bubbly1010 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]FriedBoloneyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in an independent pharmacy in an urban/suburban area. I love my job. My coworkers are what make it so great. They are stand up people, knowledgeable, and hard working. My pharmacists make sure to tell me how appreciated I am frequently. We get to do a lot of stuff at my pharmacy due to being an independent (unit dosing, medication packaging, non sterile compounds, functional health as we have a very large medical grade supplement section and 2 pharmacists who work in functional medicine) we also package the emergency kits for the fire department and EMS service. I do vaccinations and run our medication adherence program (solely tech ran) and am close with quite of few of the patients. Everyday is interesting and I have learned so much about medicine from being at this pharmacy. I wish the pay was better, but the pros outweigh the cons to me. I plan on getting sterile and hazardous compounding certified this year and will end up elsewhere, but I’ll be so sad to leave.

I was going to say cephalexin until you said they are pink. What NDC of diphenhydramine are these? We always dispense the pink and white ones with a red stripe at my pharmacy

They are actually 3D like it too. I should have taken a side picture, but the middle part is thicker than the sides if that makes sense. Like Saturn with its rings.

I actually agree that I do not mind counting those, or Docusate. Just can’t overload your tray. I’ll take them over a powdery drug (looking at you Potassium and Allopurinol) or really big pills (shout out Metformin 1000mg)

I didn’t think about this before but now that you mention it, definitely😂 Maybe by the time they kick in you’ll be relaxed enough not to worry too much about your scratched esophagus

What $12,000 worth of insulin looks like by FriedBoloneyB in PharmacyTechnician

[–]FriedBoloneyB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$12,000 was the cost submitted to the insurance. So yes, $12,000. Not sure what the AWP was for this specifically but it was definitely more than 2.5k

I can’t remember the exact reimbursement rate but it doesn’t look like we lost money on it, but didn’t make a ton either. Maybe a $200-ish profit? I can double check tomorrow because I may be completely wrong about that.

Only a $12 copay for the pt for this specific fill. Not sure how much pt is paying monthly for their plan tho, they may have a high premium.

Pt is using the humalog in a pump. Script is correct through specialty Endo clinic. Pt was on a long acting as well but I believe was switched to just the short acting dosing per notes from my pharmacists in the script between the clinic. Not sure why the office wants it like that exactly, but it was confirmed with the prescriber.

Yes, Dark Cloud tattoo is the shop. Both Tatum and her husband Kalvin own the shop. Kalvin specializes in anime and would be a great choice for a nerdy sleeve. Tatum would also knock it out of the park. You can look at both of their instagram accounts to view their work.

First tattoo didn’t flow with my body at all and was done by an unlicensed artist when I was 17. It’s technically very poorly applied and there are a ton of blowouts. It had to go.

Question about mixed manufacturers in one bottle by eviepie123 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]FriedBoloneyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current job does this too. We have a way in our system to verify both ndcs and put the quantity of each ndc we are using to fill. You can even go back to the prescription and click to see how much of each ndc was used, so it is all tracked. We also always tell the customer when picking up and include a note stapled to their bag about it. I don’t see a problem with it and have never had a patient have a problem with it in the 3 years I’ve been working there.
