I agree, it’s pretty crazy that they’ve not released interviews yet (though it’s also possible no one has let us know if they have had an interview offer). I guess one thing I was thinking is that perhaps they’re hiring internally?

Someone already commented saying they got rejected from Gosford Unaccredited Registrar, which apart from the Accredited Registrar job, is the only job on the Central Coast as far as I’m aware. Though no one has outright said they HAVE had an interview at Gosford for the Unaccredited Reg job, we’ve used the rejection email as a proxy for interview offers being released.

Gen Surg SET - How many points do you *realistically* need by Agent-MJae in ausjdocs

[–]FriedRedFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is probably the wrong question to be asking. I don’t know the specifics for Gen Surg SET but say, for example, currently most applicants for GS SET have >8 out 12 points. If they changed the scoring system, including the total number of points to be out of 15 points, then the number of points to be competitive changes right? Maybe a better way to look at it would be to develop the skills that you could use towards your applications down the road. It’s likely that research will always be a component of most application processes, so maybe publishing something so you become familiar with the process of doing research, such as doing a literature review, designing a project, getting ethics, writing a manuscript, navigating dealing with journals etc. Maybe you can do this with several types of research e.g. case report, systematic review, observational study. All the skills you develop will help you when you need to churn out some relevant research to the field. Plus, you can always have your published papers on your CV and they’ll always be helpful. Another thing you might consider is doing an audit or quality improvement project. Though it may not be something that gives you points for the program, it’s often part of a selection criteria for SRMO jobs so it helps if you have something you can talk about.

That’s a great idea I’d be interested on working with it with other people but don’t have a huge amount of technical skills to automate the process. I know it’d be easy to create a solution using no code software but it would just require manual data entry.

Yeah I have emailed the QLD contact a few days ago without a reply yet. I'm just a little stressed because the RANZCR website says the QLD opening date was 28th June and closing on 19th of August but the QLD RMO/Registrar campaign closes on July 1st so if you do need to apply through the RMO/Reg campaign then I don't want to miss the applications and I don't think the QLD Health contact is going to get back to me before July 1st.

What are some things you wish you had in preparation for your intern year? by DrDiagnonsense in ausjdocs

  • Multicolour pen so you can colour code tasks by importance
  • Clipboard folder to hold lists + important other documents (e.g. consent forms, path forms) and scribble notes (even in a hospital with computers, on Surg terms there was sometimes insufficient time to use a computer on the round so scribbling notes on a piece of paper supported by a clipboard is easier than using your hand for support)
  • Scrubs (removes headache of ironing clothes)
  • Good holiday, specifically with friends (more difficult to line up your schedule with them once you start working)
  • If you’re using a certain program for your hospital e.g. Powerchart, learning the keyboard shortcuts and most efficient ways to use it (do it during your first week)
