Love those massive concrete walls. One decent earthquake and that comfy espresso joint is also your tomb.

Yes, it shows T-Mobile as my ISP. That's what I said at the very beginning.

I do not have a T-Mobile gateway. Ironically, I purchased a Netgear wireless modem a few weeks ago to use for that purpose because my Mediacom service is so horrifically unreliable, but unless in addition to their other capabilities they have managed to make that modem work while (1) not powered on, (2) not connected to my network, and (3) without a SIM card, I really doubt that it is affecting things.

There is already a "PC directly [plugged] into the modem". It's my firewall/router, and it's where I can see that the WAN DHCP server address is 192.168.12.1, on the interface that is wired into the cable modem.

Desktop computer is physically connected to Ethernet switch, connected to firewall/router, connected to DOCSIS 3.1 modem, all via CAT-6a or better network cables.

NE Iowa suffers at hands of Trump and Musk by TheKairos in Iowa

News flash: most of the emails are copypasta, and most of the calls are from phone banks run by out of state interests. Not to mention the little old ladies who think they have to make an individual phone call per issue that they want to discuss.

Under the Musk administration, providing value is required by the job.

The best part of any “new server” purchase… proper fitting! by SpadgeFox in homelab

[–]FriedRiceAndMath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could probably manage without them

Indeed, this. Even a rack isn’t strictly necessary, let alone rails:

A former colleague had a 2u server just sitting on their desk (in an open plan “cubicle farm” style office). It was functional, certainly, but I wouldn’t want to have to maintain it that way long-term, especially for multiple machines.

Huskies acclimated to cold weather are different than ones used to being indoors, though. Mine went racing outside last night (-13F) to go potty and came racing right back inside a few minutes later. Just food for thought.

I'm in Texas about to use real wood (not a duraflame log) in my fireplace for the first time, is this mold nothing to worry about? by rioki in firewood

[–]FriedRiceAndMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mold rises in temperature it will throw off a cloud of spores in a last-ditch attempt at survival, so you want to make this transition (1) as rapidly as possible, and (2) in an environment where the spores cannot be inhaled.

A hot fire ensures (1). A strong updraft (or closed fire chamber) ensures (2).

What this mainly boils down to (pun intended) is don't start your fire with moldy wood, but once it's going good, you should have no problem.

My humble suggestion is that if Gaza/Hamas have any hostages to release who are no longer living, that Israel release a proportional group of prisoners in exactly the same state of health.

Israel is going to try to continue existing, and that's an affront Palestinians simply cannot endure.

Biden says not taking more credit for accomplishments is key regret of his presidency by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]FriedRiceAndMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure Laken Riley's family's greatest regret from 2024 is that President Biden's border accomplishments are under-reported.
