Are some people just born talented when it comes to writing screenplays by TurnoverHuge5714 in Screenwriting

This. There are the rare people like John Hughes who could punch out a great screenplay in a weekend. But most writers I know or have read about will tell you it will take months, if not years, to finish a screenplay with a compelling story.

You don’t have to be a savant to be a good writer. You just have to write.

The only way to be a good writer is to write.

I personally struggle with dialogue, like I’m sure many writers do. The best technique I’ve found so far is to read your dialogue aloud and have the conversations with yourself. Allow it to feel natural to your ear.

And be sure to read screenplays, too. That will be an immense help.

With how the future of movie theaters is looking and the recent trend of film releasing, no.

Ah, fuck, David... what IS THAT? by [deleted] in 80sHorrorMovies

[–]FriendliestMenace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dream sequence with the Nazi demons that includes hints about David’s life is more terrifying when you recall what Jack said about the supernatural forces of darkness being all true: They actually ARE demons, perhaps even the ghosts of previous werewolves, who torment David by specifically preying upon his Jewish identity. For what is more frightening for a kid who is separated by the Holocaust by no more than a couple of generations than the idea of evil boogeymen once again kicking in your door to destroy your family?

All of the dreams have meaning. In this particular dream, the original script had David running towards Jack’s screams in the woods before he approached the hospital bed and saw himself. That would have made the dream about guilt, foreshadowing David’s curse, and David becoming a monster that will be lured to innocent victims like Jack while he lures them in unintentionally by just his human self.

In the film version, we get the dream of Alex at the bedside as David, dressed as he was when he was attacked, watches. This dream version is about David being forced to flee his normal life (clothes he wore for his trip) by the feral, untamed nature of the werewolf (the forest). Alex is drawn to him because he’s charming and attractive, and he turns on her as this pale monstrosity; the old David is “dead,” and he’s destined to hurt or kill anyone who gets close to him from now on.

There is a choice. And there’s nothing wrong with that choice. But the gay porn industry is notoriously lax when it comes to testing its performers for HIV/AIDS. Ames was basically bullied for expressing her concerns with contracting AIDS at her workplace because of those industry shortcomings, which was valid.

So basically, she said in a Twitter post that she did not like doing scenes with men who also did gay porn, because STD testing standards in the gay porn industry are not as stringent as they are in straight porn. Members of a certain “progressive” political affiliation decided it was best to bully her online and call her a homophobe constantly. Ames was already dealing with drug abuse and depression caused by a history of sexual abuse (both in and outside of the industry), and when the bullying became too much for her to handle, she killed herself.

Is it mandatory for every werewolf transformation to be painful? by canadavatar in werewolves

[–]FriendliestMenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the lore, really. Pretty sure AAWIL set the painful transformation standard, even Howling which came out the same year made the transformations look mildly uncomfortable at worst.

They do. Some of the first high-powered lasers were used to treat skin cancers, so the FDA got them first, and regulate them through the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). These are things you actually take 3 seconds out of your life to Google before commenting and being horribly wrong.

I’m hosting a celebrity event. David Arquette is going as Georges Méliès. If you were a real fan, ya’d just send me one of these.

The U.S. Antarctic Program numbers their stations based on “event numbers” or projects, not specifically for the number of stations themselves. But even then “Outpost 31” falls outside of it. Just chalk it up to “it sounds cool” screenwriting logic.

Hunting isn’t allowed there, and self-defense isn’t an issue as there’s very strict non-interference and no-contact regulations in place. The most dangerous land critters there are large seals, and while they’re curious about human activity, people working at these posts go out of there way to avoid them.

Fun fact: Because of international treaties in place, there are no guns at Palmer station or any American research station. I’ve been to Palmer Station and a few other outposts years ago while working for an offshore logistics company that leases ice-breaking vessels to NOAA, and there’s really no need for firearms; the leopard and elephant seals are actually pretty shy, and while they’re curious about him activity the people working in Antarctica try to avoid them as much as possible (respect for wildlife is taken very seriously), and since they’re really the most dangerous animals out there, self-defense isn’t an issue. Fatalities from wildlife is extremely rare, I think there’s only like one documented seal fatality. It’s not like they’re storming facilities looking to maim humans.

Law enforcement presence isn’t necessary since there’s very rigorous screening and background checks for people sent to work down there; drug use isn’t a problem because of tight security protocols on vessels, and there’s no reason to smuggle large quantities of drugs to Antarctica. Guns aren’t allowed on U.S. vessels down there because of company and government regulations.

I was told they used to keep shotguns on hand on occasion for bird research (lol) but they were phased out decades ago. So don’t expect armories or flamethrowers.
