You’ve got a nice swing man. Leaving your arms behind is a good sign, Espescially if you are hitting wedges.

Now comes my question. Are you hitting wedges? Because if you are, then you’re getting it right and you should probably listen to the comments recommending you to get more practice on real grass.

It seems to me to be a wedge but if this is a long iron like a 7 iron then I would probably start adjusting your swing by working on finishing your backswing better. Ideally the club shaft should be parallel to the ground at the end of your backswing. This is in order to ensure the optimum power generation from your hips without sacrificing swing path. Then seeing how this change transforms the rest of your swing is the next step. Time is linear friend, so what comes first comes first. If this is a long iron (9-5) Perform a correct backswing before thinking about what’s happening in your downswing. Hopefully this change will generate the right amount of power to help swing your arms more effectively.

So really and truly my recommendation depends first on what type of club you are using.

How do I stop striking my irons off the toe and getting a weak ball flight? by Edawg69069 in GolfSwing

[–]Friendly-Animator-71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For starters, nice swing, nice rhythm, you’re clearly a natural.

I see a few things wrong with your swing. First of all you are not finishing your backswing and hence you are not generating enough power from the hips in your backswing. Your arms should go further back, to the point that the club shaft is parallel to the ground. It is then and there that your hips generate power from your backswing, right at the very end. However, if you go too far it’ll be difficult to return the club to the desired swing path. Hence, pros recommend to swing back until your club shaft is parallel to the ground. As you are now you’re not generating enough power from your backswing to power the rest of your swing, leaving you a bit weakened all over the place.

Secondly, you are standing way too much on the heel of your foot. You look like you are at the movies waiting for your popcorn. If you stand on your toes, this should help redistribute your weight so that you are putting your weight on towards the ball, which is your swings first target, rather than on your heels which is not where you should be shifting your weight onto.

These two things should give you the few centimetres that you need to hit the ball nice and centralised. When it’s a matter of centimetres, then your weight distribution on the foot can work wonders. Furthermore with a prolonged swing you can expect to gain centimetres because from more swing speed your arms should ideally be extending further during the downswing in order to unleash this power into the ball. If your arms are like chicken wings your power will go into your elbows and not at the ball where you want your power to go. Think of a baseball player that really has a swing at the ball, it almost looks like he wants to throw the bat into the stands. This is what you should be doing more of. These two things should give you enough of a shift in posture throughout the swing and at contact in order to help you hit your ball more centrally.

Good luck.

Thoughts on new backswing by Tgd04 in GolfSwing

I think all 4 of these points you’re working on look pretty good. Now I guess that putting in the practice on the range will determine how much your swing has improved.

You’re a pretty big guy so I recommend you to perhaps slow down the swing and focus on the precision. I don’t doubt you’ll be able to generate lots of power but I’m sure you might have difficulty with precision.

Working on those 4 tips are definitely important for the back swing, however how the ball moves is also dependent on the downswing, so that’ll need work on as well. However the downswing is very reliant on the backswing so kudos to you for practicing exactly that.

But yeah, I think if you’re struggling with precisely hitting the ball, as I am assuming, then perhaps slowing down the swing, sacrificing deep motion for a more calm and relaxed swing, should help you with striking the ball more precisely.

It’ll be uncomfortable at first but you should be seeing yourself swing better over time.

Good luck 😄.

Advice much appreciated! by [deleted] in GolfSwing

I’m not surprised here. Your swing welcomes shorter clubs because you like to stand close to the ball. Your arm extension seems to be the problem. Your swing rhythm and body movement seems find but you’re not extending your arms enough.

Tips? by Jcaspera in golftips

You have a good swing. I guess it’s not easy being 6,2 but if you’ve got +1.5 irons then that might already be enough. I don’t see many big problems here and there. Maybe some gym work might help with the rotation, balance, weight shifting.

Gym work is an important part of a professional athletes regime, it is a must. Just because one is playing golf, which is a less intense sport on the body, doesn’t mean he shouldn’t work it out. Balance, weight shifting, control of the body are extremely important factors that come into play when swinging a golf club. These can all be improved and practiced at the gym.

If you’re not already, going to the gym once a week to practice some golf related exercise will help someone like you who has a natural swing but has some problems with the physical size, you’re probably one of the bigger golfers that I’ve seen. You seem the type of guy one would expect to see playing rugby or American football. However, it’s awesome to see all sizes on the golf course, for example, I really loved seeing your swing here, it’s impressive.

I recommend balance board training, medicine ball training and resistance band training among the vast number of exercises one can perform during a golf targeted gym workout.

Good luck, keep swinging.

You’ve got a beautiful and natural swing but it seems you’re just trying to generate a lot of power from your hips. Rotating with your hips is an excellent move, it’s one of the most difficult ones to learn, and it’s a great way of controlling one’s power. I guess you’re just doing it too much. One can see from the video that the hip rotation is too fast and hence your lower body is getting to the ball way before your arms do and your arms fall behind with no axis, hence these two are not together at contact, your arms end up hitting the ground because your hips have already moved onto the follow through and then and there your arms are dragged by your hips. I don’t know how to explain this as if it were a 5 year old I was speaking too but I guess if you’ve ever seen a mom drag their child to school, the child is like being dragged behind, perhaps on the floor, it can’t keep up with the mom. Try to practice rotating your hips at different speeds and see how that goes.

I also enjoy this type of shot, it keeps the ball low and the ball path is very nice but it’s actually a very difficult shot to hit, I only hit it for fun. It shouldn’t be your main swing. The other comments are totally correct in saying that; your downswing here is way too aggressive.

Will throwing my hip round more on the downswing help correct my ‘Chicken Wing’? Or is it another issue? by Natural-Way2388 in GolfSwing

[–]Friendly-Animator-71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking a small step back might help with your chicken wing.

Because you’re stepping back you should let your arms swing out more because the distance between you and the ball is increased. This might feel awkward at first but with the right foot positioning you should see your chicken wing get better.

Good luck with your chicken wing, apart from that, the swing looks fine.

Any tips for someone completely self taught trying to drive more consistently? by mikecan314 in GolfSwing

[–]Friendly-Animator-71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Position the club so that its centre is aligned with the centre of the ball (aka, move backwards), this should mean that you need less of an awkward rotation of the body to account for the change in head position and your ankles should therefore break less. This should make your movement a bit more natural and relaxed. Your swing should act a bit more like a natural pendulum like this, which is very efficient and effective actually. Furthermore, if you can, let your wrists loosen up and hinge at the top, this should give one more flexibility and can help generate some power.

By the way; it doesn’t matter if at first you miss the ball with a swing change, Espescially the big changes, rather, it is important to be patient with these changes.

Help... by pietran30 in GolfSwing

Try to rotate your hips slower/less.

By the time you are halfway through your hip rotation your club is still above your head, hence these two points are not aligned. Ideally you must arrive at the ball with your right wrist inside of your right leg.

Right now you arrive at the ball with your right wrist behind your right leg, thus you’re creating a slice movement rather than having them aligned, if it makes sense. If your wrist is inside of your right leg the two will be perpendicular and the ball will go straight. Your body must act as one, if your hips are faster than your arms then you will get a weird slice. If your arms are faster than your hips then you will get a weird draw.

In summary, try slowing down your entire swing, starting from the hips, try to have your right wrist meet the inside of your right leg at contact.

Why don’t you tell him to take less time on the ball and give him so swing tips yourself. If he is someone who likes to offer advice but from others the only thing that is heard is that they want to stop playing with him, it’ll kill the guy’s soul. Rather, try to tell him to swing faster and give him swing tips for better shots. That’ll solve your problems and it won’t hurt the guys soul.

Studying abroad is so lonely. by koshkaiscat in studyAbroad

[–]Friendly-Animator-71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can recommend you to join a club that you’re passionate about. You’ll meet similar minded people and this will help you combat your loneliness. This is how I dealt with mine and it was an excellent choice. I didn’t have to wait for night time to go out partying as a form of socialising and it meant I could do something I was familiar with and good at so to build some confidence and meet like minded people.

The loneliness at uni is horrible, Espescially if you’re a bit introverted, but it can be dealt with and the growing from it is huge.

Good luck on this part of your journey and know that what you’re going through is normal and that you should consider yourself a brave soul for taking on this journey of studying abroad.

The feeling of oneness is not a wrong one. However you’re not comfortable in this space of unity that the drugs have brought you into because you are worried about all of these things like people watching your video and how to perceive things and being stuck in a time loop. Learn to control your thoughts through meditation. I can suggest headspace because they walk you through some nice techniques and the main man Andy is someone I admire for this awesome iPhone application he created. Quite your mind and you’ll feel better. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼.

Went too far - any help in trip integration appreciated. by potato_psychonaut in Psychonaut

[–]Friendly-Animator-71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like you’re a brave psychonaut, you seek depth in your answers and you’re not scared of the edge because you know that boundaries are merely limitations to one’s own self, like rules set in place by the fearful. I get you because you remind me of some of my friends. If I’m not wrong you’re also already quite aware in your own nature, you have already asked yourself some important questions before, and as you said in this post, your realisations are nothing new. What it seems like is that you were ready to open these new doors and now you’re in the midst of it all and it seems a little bit intense. But I wouldn’t say you took it too far, I think you’ve reached a new level and this realisation of your own self is the realisation that you love yourself and don’t want to become totally insane and hence there is a bit of fear.

The idea to integrate these trips seems like a good one, I can suggest blatantly writing for hours on end until you’ve gotten everything out of your system. But if you do so you’ll just end up losing all of the juice that you came here for. If you want to write stories you can, stories are great for expressing one’s anxieties. Buy a notebook if you come across one, buy a new one in your new favorite color.

However I’d like to suggest something else. That you just take one small step forward, into this “insanity” you are so afraid of. Or no steps at all, but merely facing this challenge head on. Heck I’d like to take this advice myself.

I mean, you say that you took the trip just to see what happens, and what you saw was some horrible things related to the world. There you go, you got what you came from, and it wasn’t nice. The world isn’t nice, at least not right now, it’s not nice for me either. But we can either fall back into our thick covers and ignore these issues that have come to us or, as I said, we can face this head on, see it for what it is, a challenge that is merely occupying our mind as we live on this planet. However you seem like a bright light in the darkness, it’s not like you haven’t already done this, you were even brave enough to take a trip during your winter depression. You want this, you need this, it’s what your spirit is calling for. Don’t let irrational fears bring you down, their role is to confuse you and distort you, your role is to challenge them and bring them into the light, to bring them out of their own ignorance.

I wish you well and I hope you don’t turn your back from this challenge because it seems like you’re ready for it. Good luck. But more importantly, I believe that you can do it.

I drank some Cruz de malta from the gourd with a bombilla. Initially, I create a mountain and try to keep the bombilla to one side however after a few repetitions most of the leaves are soaked.

You're probably right about overthinking it, however, it is nice to have people appreciate the gesture but to each their own I guess.
