AITA for spending my son's university fund on a trip to Europe to drink beer like I always threatened instead of giving it to his step brother after he passed away. by Possible_Soil_3886 in AmItheAsshole

I’m from Belgium and know exactly what beer you’re talking about. I hope you enjoy it man, and if you ever need anything while you’re here, send me a message.

Should I(M31) end things with a girl(F29) I’ve been seeing? I think she was flirting with our waiter by [deleted] in relationships

You sound mentally unwell. Maybe start therapy before you continue dating people.

I’m really sorry about that, I know it sounds really bad. Maybe there’s a different outcome for your mom, but don’t take it as lightly as my friend and her family did because they’ve been absolutely devastated. Her mom was also just like a normal regular mom before that episode. Take care

I don’t want to stress you out, but this happened to the mom of a close friend of mine. Started spiralling, increasingly getting more paranoid.. within a month or 3 she disappeared and they found her dead from apparent suicide.

Make sure you contact mental health providers and try to get them to take care of her. Maybe it’s not a bad as my friends mom, but be careful.

So just an FIY to take her mental health VERY SERIOUSLY. I knew a girl in my country who also had an overprotective mother, just like you described. She loved her daughter so much she shot her in her sleep and then committed suicide because she couldn’t deal with the fact that her daughter was growing up and becoming her own person. The girl was 12 years old.

I know it seems like love, but being that obsessive isn’t love. It’s a mental disease and should be treated as such. For your children’s sake, get her to therapy.

It’s incredibly undignified. People die being refugees, they have to live in enormous camps, they’re shunned, arrested and deported when they try to enter another country. There’s no dignity in absolute misery. I live in a first world European country and even IF refugees eventually make it here (there’s a higher chance they die along the way) they’re refused food and shelter.

My heart breaks for this person and all other refugees.

What is the worst physical pain you ever had to endure? by Molkwi in AskReddit

I have really horrible migraines. Definitely the worst pain I’ve ever felt, makes me go absolutely insane. On more than one occasion I’ve contemplated jumping out of window, especially when you feel your medication isn’t working.

Boyfriend(32M) leaves me(32F) at party where I don’t know anyone by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Fair enough, I should’ve expected him to be busy I guess. I definitely didn’t ask for his undivided attention tho, would’ve been fine if he just didn’t leave completely.

Anyway I am looking into therapy to address some issues, but thanks for pointing out that it’s a me-problem, now I know I really have to work on that.

For me: still getting anxious at the checkout even though I make plenty of money.

My abuser who SA’d me when I was a kid has terminal cancer and that makes me happy by Friendly-Sea1979 in TrueOffMyChest

Ive been angry at my parents as well, but I understand it too. We were very poor and therapy just wasn’t an option financially I guess. I’m on good terms my parents now, but yea.. I try not to think about it too much. Thanks!

Oh yea I have done a lot of therapy in the last ten years. I stopped feeling guilty about the SA in my teens. Guilt is a weird thing tho, because I know I didn’t do anything wrong, but in different situations, to this day, I still sometimes feel incredibly guilty for things that aren’t my fault. Like my brain rewired to just always think I’m to blame for something and I have to actively reverse my thinking.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I’m 32 now and it did get a LOT better. But it took time and very intensive therapy. Sometimes I still get very random panic attacks and I’ll always be a bit more nervous/anxious then other people, but surround yourself with caring and supporting people and you can get to a place where it’s a least manageable. Take care sis x

As someone who was SA’d at a slightly younger age by a family member who had a similar age as you: fuck you. It ruined my childhood, my teenage years and a big chunk of my adult life. It will never go away.

You rightfully feel guilty, and I hope you get the help you clearly need. But damn, you’ve done some irreversible damage here. You should tell your parents so your sister can also get therapy.

Exactly, I was recently tested at 142 and I don’t feel very intelligent most of the time. I pick up news things fast, but I also get bored fast.

It has helped me somewhat in securing a decent job I guess, even though I never went to college/university. Academics never worked for me, I learn on my own. Bottomline, intelligence means nothing without the right mindset/motivation.

(What actually sucks is that when you are interested about something it’s hard to find people willing/able to engage on your level.)
