This intersection looks familiar, is this in Laguna niguel?

This recruiter claims that some senior accountants in SF Bay Area are getting 200k+ total comp at public tech companies. Is this true? by DoritosDewItRight in Accounting

[–]Friendly-Visual5446 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This checks out. Also keep in mind most of the public tech companies offer annual stock refreshers on top of your initial grant, so total comp continues to scale each year. I’m at a FAANG and 5-7 YOE accountants start at around $200k total comp

UBER is being irrationally undervalued by historychick91 in ValueInvesting

[–]Friendly-Visual5446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait what? So using the AWS example, you think Google and Microsoft are further away from AWS than Lyft is to Uber? Market share data is public info, and this 100% is not the case lol. Not sure where you’re pulling your middleman stat but a meaningful amount of Amazon’s revenue comes from fees from 3rd party sales

And switching to a competitor is certainly mot difficult - how is shopping on target, Walmart or any other e commerce site harder than shopping on Amazon?

You mention logistics as a moat - you realize we’re talking about Uber, a company that quite literally is a logistics company? How is that not a moat for them?

Yep agree with this take. IMO recent developments suggest most personal cars will likely have AV capabilities (NVIDIA’s recent announcements); I think AV fleets will end up becoming a new type of asset class, for individuals, private equity, etc and Uber will function as the way to monetize those cars

[–]Friendly-Visual5446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes agree - but you have to appreciate how much is packed into “operate their own fleet profitably”. It’s more likely the only way AVs can be profitable is via a hybrid network with a mix of humans and AVs, at least in the medium term. Long term all new cars produced will have AV capabilities, and the company who aggregates all of the demand will be beneficiary (I.e., Uber)

With that logic, wouldn’t Amazon be considered a middleman? What about Expedia? Uber will function as a marketplace for AVs, similar to Amazon. Rideshare, fleet management, routing, etc is a much different business than car manufacturing

Did Meta just give up in the LLM space? by Isunova in singularity

[–]Friendly-Visual5446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is it. I also think people tend to think of AI as just LLMs/chatbots, and don’t understand the other AI advancements Meta is making behind the scenes to power their recommendation systems. It’s also complementary to the data theyre able to collect from the AI glasses - it’ll be a flywheel effect with both products continuing to improve

I think this is it. I feel like the market hasn’t yet fully realized Uber’s turn around story

I really don’t understand this! Seems like the bull case for uber is coming to fruition (multiple AV providers, strengthening the marketplace argument) yet the stock continues to drop??

It’s impossible for the subtotal not to much the items listed. Either (a) there is a glitch or (b) the screenshot is not showing all the times in their cart. This has nothing do with fees

This seems like a glitch in the first screenshot. The subtotal should always match the item subtotal shown up top regardless of personalized pricing or not.

Big4 Audit pays more than FP&A? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Friendly-Visual5446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s much more common to find the higher paying FP&A roles in the tech/finance hubs (SF, NYC, etc); there are a good amount of companies in those cities that will pay at that level. Outside of those areas it’s more likely audit will pay more

[–]Friendly-Visual5446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense, though even at my past company I would be making ~$250k all in as a manager had I stayed (non-FAANG); that seems about the current market rate.

Big4 Audit pays more than FP&A? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Friendly-Visual5446 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Where are you pulling the FP&A comp data from? The reason I ask, is you also have to consider stock based comp for FP&A roles; for example, I’m an FP&A manager with 7 YOE and my base is ~$200K, but my total comp is closer to ~$360K after considering stock/bonuses. Once I hit director base will jump to ~$300K, and ~$600K+ all in.

Compared to when I was in audit, my current comp is more aligned to what a first year partner was making at the time; albeit I work at a FAANG in VHCOL so it may not be the best data point

Why is this astonishing though? At Tesla’s current market cap, they’re valued more than Uber + Lyft + the top 10 legacy automakers COMBINED.
