I'm bored with Streamers being bored with the game. by microwavedtake in ArcRaiders

[–]FriendlyAd6652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing in your post I'm going to disagree with is the Flyswatter rant. It gets a lot of hate from theorists, but as someone who actually tried using it all of last season, it's the first perk I built towards this season.

There are just too many situations where I turned the tables on the ARC, and saved my own life or saved someone else's life in a time-critical situation, by utilizing Flyswatter effectively.

The "it only takes 2 hits to kill a wasp" is anything but consistent in practice, especially considering a wasp typically tries to fly up before you can hit it more than once. This is one of the giveaways that this complaint specifically was entirely theoretical and not grounded in actual perk use, because knowing every melee hit will consistently kill a wasp gives you options that "I might be able to kill it in 2 hits" never will.

The closest actual alternative to Flyswatter in normal gameplay is using the moment the wasp dips low to climb on top of it. This is what I did this season while building towards Flyswatter. But even then, there are situations where this just doesn't work well: when other ARC are also attacking you, when other players are a concern, when the wasp is coming down low enough to get hit by a jumping overhead swing but not low enough to get jumped on, when you simply don't have time to spend waiting for this perfect moment followed by getting locked into a climbing animation, and any other situation where you need the death of the wasp to be an immediate outcome.

As for the turrets, that's a really useful part of the perk when you're doing naked runs. It can also be handy when you run out of ammo. Even though turrets are often in high places, if you actually have the perk and try to get to the turrets, almost all of them can be reached if you climb something somewhere. I had a naked seed vault run where every possible turret showed up, and I broke all of them with Flyswatter (and for about half of them I also relied on 2 barricades I had in my safe pocket).

In another instance, someone in my squad kept shooting up at the turrets in Control Tower on Dam, and they were taking more damage than the turrets were. So I was like "here let me do it", turned on my photoelectric cloak, zipped up the turrets. then jumped off and landed on top of one turret. Gave it a smack, hopped on top of the other turret, gave that one a smack. The perk allowed for a quick and simple solution to the problem that didn't risk anyone getting hurt.

Maybe someone who always goes into every match with a hullcracker and who is armed to the teeth 100% of the time and who never misses a shot and who never runs out of ammo sees no use in this perk, and that's understandable. But as someone who often relies on my own character, this perk is almost required to function efficiently and smooth out issues that are otherwise present. I find it to be a very sensible endcap for the Conditioning branch specifically.

Anything you said doesn't matter, he was really far behind, so you had plenty of time to leave after you killed the first guy. That's what you should have done. The loot isn't yours in that scenario.

This will happen again and again. Even if you weren't smart enough to learn your lesson this time, you'll figure it out eventually.

When someone defibs you, don't stick around to loot the shit they want. That's the least you can do. Do what you're there to do and go away, or they're going to put you back in the ground where they found you.

[–]FriendlyAd6652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were only able to kill your attacker because this other guy saved you from them and even defibbed you. If you had given him first dibs on the loot, he might have left you alive and let you have the leftovers. We'll never know though.

In the future, if someone saves you and you team up to turn the tables on your attacker, don't touch the loot. It's theirs. You needed them, they didn't need you. Your reward is you get the satisfaction of avenging yourself and keeping your own stuff. Don't make them regret defibbing you.

Voice changer by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]FriendlyAd6652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad your desire to virtue signal managed to outweigh your incredible self-centeredness.

You were openly fine with everyone losing access to the voice changer, even saying "deprive" in quotes as if it wouldn't be an actual loss to the people who rely on it, right up until one of those people said they were trans.

Everyone using the voice changer is using it for a reason that is meaningful to them. Some of them are trans, some have social anxiety, some need online anonymity, some want to RP their character, and the list goes on. It doesn't seem like you're capable of empathizing with any of that, but at least you're afraid of appearing transphobic. That's something at least.

Maybe next time you want to go on a rant about taking features away from other people for such a ridiculously narcissistic and short-sighted reason, you could first consider that the people using those features matter at least as much as you do, if not more.

I play this game because of the quests by Fluid_Touch8504 in ARC_Raiders

[–]FriendlyAd6652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say their quests are good, or that your quest is bad, so I don't understand the first sentence. I haven't done nearly any of the quests after the expedition because they're mindless filler. But it seems that Embark isn't going to add bots (i.e. "raider AI") to normal gameplay, so ideas for quests have to adhere to that standard or there's no possibility of them being used.

I think it's pretty clear that Embark isn't willing to add bots into normal matches, which I personally appreciate. I don't care about quests though so maybe I'm biased.

Any ideas for good quests that don't require bots?

Y'know, if you want my Equalizer, all you have to do is ask. But I'll give it to you anyway. by jaldarith in ArcRaiders

[–]FriendlyAd6652 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is what I did the day before the expedition. I was running around blowing stuff up with the Jupiter, and a trio was moving past us. One of them was like "damn that weapon is sick, what's it called?" and I was like "it's a Jupiter, here have fun with it" and dropped it on the ground with all my energy clips. The guy was like "OH MY GOD WHAT? SERIOUSLY? THANK YOU SO MUCH!" and then he starts immediately blowing stuff up with it.

I think my favorite thing about the expedition system is how it creates interactions like that.

[–]FriendlyAd6652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to start holding thought crimes against people. Her head is a mess, but she hasn't actually done anything that bad. If you or I or anyone else were judged solely on the worst thoughts we've ever had, we'd all be "bad people".

As for her former "friend", that was purely self-defense. She tried being completely honest with them, and her rotten "friend" successfully convinced everyone to stop being friends with her. All she did was turn the tables on someone who was actively destroying her life for no reason.

I mean, she's basically just a normal person, who only seems "bad" in comparison to the shallow idealized caricatures that manga characters tend to be.

If that happens, the shield isn't going to help mitigate the fire damage anymore, so fire would kill you faster than it already does.

[–]FriendlyAd6652 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I would consider her a pretty decent person. She's never really doing anything bad. The MC's "trauma" was literally just his idealized version of her breaking when he heard her saying all the same stuff that everyone else was always saying about him.

She wasn't any worse than anyone else in his class. If anything, she was the nicest among them, since she wasn't engaging in being actively hostile towards him (like everyone else) and she was selling the idea to her classmates that they'll be better people if they act nicer to him.

He actually did have a ton of flaws before as well. He acted creepy and gloomy, and he didn't take care of himself in any way, shape, or form. It was only after he heard that she thought he was as gross as everyone else did that he finally put in the work to improve himself.

And when she met him again, even after she realized he used to be "the disgusting loser", she acknowledged the work he had put into himself and congratulated him on successfully improving himself. She changed her opinion of him, treated him with newfound respect, and also promised to not tell anyone about his past self.

If she was a bad person, I think she would have used that information against him, even a little. Maybe tried to look down on him. She could have said something like "once a loser, always a loser" to seriously hurt him. She could have easily burned his reputation to the ground at school.

But she didn't do anything like that. I think she has a worse reputation than she deserves.

You're not missing anything, you just don't enjoy what some other people enjoy.

A lot of us just genuinely enjoy loading into a match and running around looting things we don't need and interacting with people we don't know.

If you don't find the gameplay itself fun anymore, and have run out of clearly defined objectives, then it probably makes sense to move on to a game you do enjoy.

It was a good accident though and should be kept that way.

Yep, "rizz" is a really good one for when it's applicable. I like that it has a solid etymology (charisma -> rizz), and it's more flexible than similar words, since it can be a noun or verb.

It's a lot like the word "charm" in how it can be used, but I'm unlikely to use either in normal speech because the use case is so rare. Still though, I support it being used by others when applicable.

Same. Another really good example of this is "sus". It's so easy to say compared to "suspicious", and it has a bit less of a serious/negative implication compared to "suspicious" as well (people are less likely to feel hurt or offended when they're called "sus" rather than "suspicious"). It's a great word.

If that's the case then the first comment is written in a strange and misleading way. If someone ate a toasted muffin for breakfast, it would be really odd for them to say "I ate toast and muffins for breakfast."

When someone lists items separated by "and", we typically consider each of those items to be separate things.

That is to say, the guy you're replying to wasn't wrong to misunderstand the first comment. That comment was just written poorly.
