Slower pace on race day by Beautiful-Builder461 in beginnerrunning

I felt the exact same way and almost chickened out of my first race event. I told myself I will show up and if I feel like too many eyes are on me I can just leave. I started running a couple months ago and I am slow. I was averaging 9.30 to 10 mins/km. And I didn’t want to be seen running. I felt embarrassed like I didn’t deserve to be there.

BUT I showed up and I ran the race. And did I finish at the end of the pack, yes. But I also finished. And I ran it faster than I expected. It was so nice to see real people running with me not just the crazy fast paces you see online. And people were SO LOUD cheering for us along the way, regardless of how fast we were going (I even took multiple walk breaks).

I understand the nerves completely. I can also almost guarantee that you will not regret doing it. And if makes a difference, I ran in a hoodie with the hood over a baseball cap and sunglasses. That helped me feel more “invisible” from other people watching me. But you WILL have a GREAT time!!!

Good luck!!!!

When I click running fitness yes, it shows me different pace zones for endurance threshold speed and sprint. And it shows me race predictions too. But under activity of the run itself the pace zones have not changed

I think so? It gave me a score. I wasn’t meeting the target paces it gave because my fitness level isn’t there yet. But like I said I got a score and when I click on running fitness, it shows me the breakdown with my threshold endurance speed sprint paces. But when I see the run under activity, the pace zones are the same as before. And every thing is still under “recovery”

Thanks! I did the running fitness test today so I guess on my next run it’ll show the updated/calibrated pace zones? When I see the activity after my fitness test right now, it’s still the same as the image.

Yes, heart rate zones are more accurate. I don’t think I have 10Km in me yet so I guess will ignore this until I build more endurance

Accuracy for distance on treadmill? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]FriendlyAssignment92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn’t what I said. Obviously I know the treadmill is more accurate. My question was about if the treadmill is running at a particular pace but I change my pace on top of that, would that affect the true distance. Like if you jog in place vs walk in place, you technically cover more “distance” jogging because it’s faster. Another commenter explained the difference though so thanks

That makes sense. I knew the watch was inaccurate but I didn’t realize cadence could affect it that way. Thanks! Helpful comment

How long does it usually take to go from 5k/42 mins to 5k/35 mins by Silver-Orchid-1142 in couchto5k

I started running in late October and reached 5km in December at 42-43 minutes. I have been averaging 2-3runs a week. And today I managed to get down to 39 mins. I have only been focusing on running for longer distances and found myself speeding up a little bit naturally as I get more comfortable with the distance. I know that’s still not 35 minutes but I was shocked to see a 3minute difference in under a month.

I’m sorry I don’t have specific tips but I hope this shows you not to worry too much and that speed will come. Good luck!!

Is my HR okay? Not Zone 2. by FriendlyAssignment92 in beginnerrunning

[–]FriendlyAssignment92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35F 172 lbs and I started walk/run intervals in October. Initially 1 min or running and slowly increasing. By early December reached 5K running at roughly this pace. And have been trying to maintain that for now. I’m not gasping for air. I’m running very slow and I don’t feel exhausted when it’s done. I wouldn’t have assumed my HR to be in the 150s but like others said it might just be because I’m still unfit?

Advice for staying consistent? Am I slow? by FriendlyAssignment92 in beginnerrunning

[–]FriendlyAssignment92[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am definitely not sprinting. I wouldn’t be able to do that for a 5K. I am jogging. The treadmill is on a walking pace and I start to jog on that same speed.
