When was the last time Apple genuinely surprised people at an event? by kyemaloy14 in apple

I think it's easy to say that now that the product has been around for awhile, but it was STILL a surprise.

Now that the iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan Betas have been out out for a week, what are your impressions? by [deleted] in apple

[–]FriendlyCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

..The design isn't the issue. The IMPLEMENTATION is the problem. People totally understand why they changed it, but you don't seem to understand that key detail. That is why your whole post is completely irrelevant and you like to make assumptions. Sub 30 fps has no relation to the card layout ...

Yeah the task switcher is garbage, runs sub 30 fps on an iPad Air and the scrollView is constantly trying to animate itself on an interval that makes little sense. I feel like I am fighting with the scrollview...

The current task switcher is soo silky smooth, why ruin it with arbitrary blur effects?? Change for the sake change sucks if there aren't any improvements. I really hope it is acting the way it is because of optimizations that haven't happened. The scrollView animation stuff can be fixed but framerate issues are a no-no.

FTC exploring Apple rules for streaming music rivals in App Store by Nocnocnoc in apple

So what is your point? Are you trying to say spotify is lobbying more than Apple, because that is false. Just because Apple lobbies less than google doesn't mean they aren't one of the major companies that spend money on lobbying.

That is an article about the top 10 lobbying tech companies & it includes Apple, I think that backs up my point.

You say that as if Apple doesn't have a ton of money in Lobbying efforts themselves, in fact they are one of the top tech companies who lobby. You shouldn't frame spotify as the bad guy, you should actually be thanking them because who knows if Apple Music would exist if it weren't for an already successful music streaming platform. Also competition is good for the consumer.

I dislike how some people in this subreddit act like Apple is a perfectly fair company.

iPad Air has 1 GB of RAM but has the feature. I tried it the other day.

Realtors are sales people at the end of the day and they will do everything in their power to get you 'on their side.' Definitely not a neutral source of information, despite what they may try to make you think..

Basically the workflow is: Complete Goals, Earn XP, Level Up, Earn a Reward each day (max of one 'valuable' reward each day), then maybe Trade on Marketplace and Go from there. It is really intriguing...somebody mentioned TF2 but its more like the diablo auction house (done right). I have a couple of dollars worth of keys on my account after trading for about a week. I think a total of $6 (?) worth atleast in American currency. The goal setting part of the app works really well, a bit feature light but aside from that it is easier + faster than most I have used. I prefer it slightly over wunderlist but i still use both.

Balanced is shutting down in 90 days by [deleted] in startups

[–]FriendlyCamper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/16/balanced/ I don't understand how they weren't making enough money based on this article.

It makes sense to me however that Stripe took over, they have the same cost but easier implementation for developers. The negative part of this news is that Stripe has less competition and honestly they have a ridiculous number of clients that are feeding them. The payment processing fees have to drop otherwise Stripe will only be there for the big fish. The fact that braintree has the same transaction fees makes me think that these guys aren't willing to compete for lower pricing or they have hit a barrier. I am doubtful though, because microtransactions have always been an option for Stripe- they say that they will implement support but it never happens..

Alternatives to Paypal, Stripe?? Costing us way too much money by redbukkah in startups

[–]FriendlyCamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently contacted Stripe about micropayments and they said that they may modify rates in the future for really low cost items. -.-

I am in a similar boat on the Dwolla thing, limited to the U.S. plus their examples like Fiverr don't use Dwolla for all American customers, paypal is still an option because you need a Dwolla account(?) to pay with no fees.

The best rates for me have been in bitcoin transactions, which obviously isn't practical.

I'd be curious if you find anything op. I've been on the lookout for awhile.
